Synopsis

There are only two ways a human can cross the gates of Bloodstone Institute: as a familiar to one of the blueblood vampires who attend the elite school or as a snack.

I’m neither, but I have to get in at all costs. My brother made a big mistake, and now I have to fix it by stealing from the most powerful and cruel vampire to ever come to Bloodstone, Lucca Della Morte. If that wasn’t almost suicidal, I need to get it done before the spell concealing my human nature wears off.

But I forget that I’m only pretending to be a vampire. I’m still human and susceptible to Lucca’s dangerous allure. His darkness calls to my soul. His savagery makes my blood sing. I’m falling for the dark prince, craving him in a visceral way that’s frightening and exciting at the same time.

If he discovers my secret, he’ll destroy me. And yet, I can’t help wanting to get closer. I never thought I had a death wish until I met him.

My Review:

Dark Prince is the sizzling first book in the Blueblood Vampire Series. An engrossing, interesting, and sexy romance, it tells the story of Vivienne, a human who is blackmailed by her brother’s dragon-shifter captor to steal a necklace from one of the most powerful vampires in the world.

Lucca has just awoken from a long hibernation and is inexplicably drawn to Vivienne. He needs to be near her, he wants to know her better, and though he knows she has poor intentions, he knows his feelings for her are real.

When Vivienne enrolls at Bloodstone Institute to get close to Lucca, she never intends to develop feelings for him. She is afraid of him and all vampires, but she is even more afraid of her feelings. Can she betray Lucca to save her brother? Will Lucca break the curse that has plagued him for centuries? Time is running out for Lucca and Vivienne.

The immersive paranormal world depicted in this story is fascinating. Dragon shifters, vampires, specters, familiars, and a multitude of other paranormal characters play a part in this well-developed page-turner. I love how seamlessly the human and paranormal worlds intertwine.

I was also fascinated by the depth of detail included about the setting, the history of the characters, and the vampire world in general. The new and original explanations for the Salem witch trials, Van Helsing, and other paranormal stories are cleverly referenced throughout the book and add even more depth to this clever and interesting world.

Of course, the review wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t discuss the love story. Vivienne and Lucca are opposites, and they complement each other well. Vivienne seems to challenge Lucca and intrigue him in way that no other has before. And Lucca treats Vivienne as an equal and as someone of value. He gives her the confidence she so desperately needs. Plus, they have sizzling chemistry! There are several blush-inducing scenes that show just how much chemistry this couple has.

Finally, though this is a paranormal romance, the story contains strong messages about the power of family and loyalty, the harmful effects of secrets, the importance of love, and the toxicity of prejudice.

Rating:

Favorite Parts:

  • Lucca Della Morte. Gorgeous, protective, intense, magnetic – he is the absolute best part of the book.
  • The excellent depiction of a unique paranormal/human world.
  • The love story. It’s sexy and sweet and made me fan myself a few times.

Recommendations:

Readers who enjoy steamy paranormal romance will eat this book up (pun intended). People who like unique worlds and immersive stories will also enjoy this piece.
