Synopsis: Edith Drummond owes her life to Niels Buchanan and his brothers. Waking after an illness to a castle overrun by rugged Highlanders is disconcerting, but so is learning that she’s slowly being poisoned. Niels insists on staying by her side, and Edith soon discovers that even more dangerous is her wild attraction to the fierce warrior.

Niels has never met a more courageous—or enticing—woman than Lady Edith. The idea of such a bonny lass being forced to enter a nunnery is more than any red-blooded Scotsman could bear. He’ll gladly marry her himself. But while sweeping her off her feet is easy, it’ll take all his skill to defeat her family’s relentless enemies, and convince her to surrender to his sweet embrace.

My Review:

I first became a fan of Lynsay Sands when she released her Argeneau series. I can remember being drawn to her fun titles and sexy covers. Her stories were just as appealing.

Several months ago, I started reading Sands’ Highlander Brides series. Though very different from her Argeneau series, the covers remain eye-catching, and her stories are still entertaining!

A quick and fun read, Surrender to the Highlander is the fifth book in the Highlander Brides series. Like all of the books in the series, the dialogue is strong and the figurative language enhances historical setting.

This is the story of Lady Edith, a woman on her death bed who became ill after caring for her now deceased brothers and father. When Neils and several other Buchanon brothers check on Lady Edith at the bequest of their very pregnant sister Saidh (Yes! She and Greer make a fabulous appearance in the story!) and aid in her recovery, they suspect that her life is still in danger. The brothers work to figure out what is happening before it’s too late.

Lady Edith is a strong and intelligent protagonist. She suffers incredible loss and still pushes to be strong for her clan. She proves from the start that she is an honorable leader. This , combined with her beauty, sharp wit, and kindness, makes her irresistible to Neils.

Neils and Edith had great chemistry, and I liked watching them realize that they loved each other. They definitely knew early on that they desired each other! Edith and Neils share some pretty sexy scenes!

Of course, as their feelings develop, they are trying to figure out who poisoned Edith and her family. This is one other aspect of the Highlander Brides series that I enjoy – There is always an interesting mystery to solve.

Though this is the fifth book in the series it can be read as a stand-alone. That being said, I would suggest reading from the start. The first four books in the series are a bit more memorable than this one, though it is an enjoyable read. I mean, it has romance, mystery, and sexy highlanders!

Rating:

Favorite Parts:

  • The romance! Edith and Niels are a fabulous couple. I love their quick banter and their easy way with each other.
  • The humorous scenes. There are some really funny parts in this book, which often helped to alleviate the seriousness of the plot.

Recommendations:

Readers who enjoy steamy highlander romance with an intriguing (and deadly) mystery will enjoy this book.

    1. I’m a sucker for a good highlander romance, sci-fi romance, historical romance…romance in general. lol Thanks so much for the nomination! I’m going to check it out now. 🙂

    1. Oooohhhh! I love the McCabe trilogy! If you like that series, you’ll definitely like Lynsay Sands’ series. Maya Banks’ Montgomery and Armstrong series is also pretty good. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
