Six for Sunday: Books on My TBR Because of a Recommendation

Hey there! This week I’m participating in Six for Sunday, a meme hosted by Steph at A Little But a Lot. This week topic is: Books on Your TBR Because of a Recommendation. This is a large list. I love reading reviews and listening to book recommendations from friends and family. That’s how I learn about some of the best books! Here are a few that easily came to mind:

1. The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller

So many people are discussing this book right now, and it sounds AMAZING!

A Court of Books and Love, Confessions of a YA Reader, and Synopses by Sarge wrote great reviews that ultimately enticed me to add this book to my TBR.

If you haven’t seen their blogs, you should totally check them out! They all have interesting content and great reviews.

2. Scythe by Neal Shusterman

My brother has been raving about this series for a while. He is not a bookworm like me, so when he recommends a novel, it is usually one he absolutely loves. The story sounds pretty cool, if a bit dark.

I added it to my TBR list months ago and haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. Sorry, bro! I promise I’ll read it soon!

i must admit, the cover is captivating and definitely intrigues me. Also, I am a big fan of young-adult dystopian novels, which my bro knows (I think that’s why he recommended it.) so I think I’ll enjoy it.

3. Coming up Roses by Staci Hart

I saw this on Bibliophile Chloe and Kari’s Book Reviews and Revelations. It was free a few weeks ago, so I snagged it when I had the chance. Inspired by Pride and Prejudice, the story is a romantic comedy that sounds smart and sweet.

The first book in the Bennet Brothers series, this story focuses on Luke Bennett who is trying, with his brothers, to help his mother save her business.

A romantic comedy that pays a bit of homage to Jane Austen? I’m loving this idea!

4. Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas

I introduced my son to the Throne of Glass series, and he loved it, I think, even more than I did.

I’m not caught up with the series, much to his dismay. I’m a fan of Sarah J. Maas and loved ACOTAR (Rhysand and Feyre forever!!)

The Throne of Glass series is also good, but I almost feel like I’d have to go back and refresh my memory before starting this one, as it’s been a while since I’ve delved into the story.

5. From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I saw this book on several different blogs over the past month, and Once Upon a Book Blog and Book Besties convinced me to put it on my TBR with their awesome reviews! You should totally check them out if you have a chance. 🙂

Jennifer L. Armentrout is the fabulous author of the Lux series. I think I’ve talked about my love of Obsidian and the series as a whole at least a dozen times on my blog, so adding this new series to my list is a no brainer.

I bought the book last week, and I’m thinking this might be my next read. (Though reading plans often change depending on my mood, so we’ll see.)

6. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

When I saw the glowing review on Evelyn Reads, I immediately added An Ember in the Ashes to my TBR.

It is a YA fantasy which is perfect for me since I never tire of this genre! This is the first in a series, and it sounds like the entire series is amazing.

Thanks for introducing me to what sounds like an epic story, Evelyn! You can check out Evelyn’s blog here. I love reading her fabulous book reviews and posts. 🙂

Well, there you have it – 6 books I added to my TBR because of a review or recommendation. Have you read any of these books? Which should I move to the top of my TBR? Comment below!

  3. I introduced my son to Throne of Glass, too, and he’s just about to finish Kingdom of Ash or has just finished it. We have had some great discussions about the series. I really enjoyed An Ember in the Ashes, too. I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on From Blood and Ash.

    1. Isn’t that awesome! I love talking books with my kids and sharing my favorite books! I bought From Blood and Ash and haven’t read it yet. First I have to read Serpent & Dove and The Court of Miracles. 🙂

  4. I’ve not read any of those yet but I think they are all on my wishlist – I LOVE the idea for this post – I’ve bought so many books because I’ve read a great review.

  5. Scythe is so good! My husband reads about 2 books a year, and that was his pick for 2019 and he loved it!

  6. Such a wonderful post idea! I really should do something like this. And I’m so glad I helped influence your want to read The Shadows Between Us. I hope you enjoy it when you do read it! Thanks so much for sharing my review 💜

  7. I recently read The Shadows Between Us and I really liked it! It’s about two morally questionable people falling in love and I don’t know what that says about me but I loved that! I really hope you like it if you decide to read it!

      1. It is! I do warn though it has questionable world building, I’m case that’s something you look for in a book. Few things about the world or the magic are actually explained. I personally didn’t mind it but I know some people prefer a world with well established rules.
