My Life In Books Tag

I saw this tag over at Kerri McBookNerd back in April and thought it would be fun to do! If you haven’t been to Kerri’s fan-tabulous blog, you should totally check it out!

1. Find a book for each of your initials

J Jane Eyre – Charlotte Bronte

UUnder the Never Sky – Veronica Rossi

L Legend – Marie Lu; Like Water for Chocolate – Laura Esquivel

I In the Time of the Butterflies – Julia Alvarez; Ice Crown – Kay L. Moody

EEmpire of Storms – Sarah J. Maas

2. Count your age along with your bookshelf. What book is it?

I am 44 years old, and Daphne Du Maurier’s Rebecca is the 44th book on my bookshelf.

This is a great Gothic romance! I have several copies of Rebecca as well as the Hitchcock film, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read and watched them.

When I taught high school English, I integrated Du Maurier’s story into my British Literature curriculum so that I could share it with my students. It’s a fabulous classic that I totally recommend!

3. Pick a book set in your city/country.

The Chosen Coven series setting is two towns over from my city in Rhode Island. The characters go to places all over Rhode Island and Massachusetts including Boston, Salem, Newport, and Providence. As a life-long Rhode Island resident, I loved these seeing references to places I frequent in the story!

4. Pick a book that represents a destination you would love to travel to.

Bound in Flame takes place in Hawaii, and I’ve always wanted to take a vacation there.

5. Pick a book that has your favorite color in it.

Purple and red are my two favorite colors, but lately I’ve been leaning more toward purple.

6. Which book do you have the fondest memories of?

I love me some Harry Potter and have many fond memories of this series! I’ve read each book at least a dozen times, and each time is as enjoyable as the last.

I waited in line for the midnight opening at my local bookstore so that I could get the books right when they released. I also met the actor who plays Lucius Malfoy, and he was lovely.

Now, I share my love of the books with my kids, so I’ll be sure to have even more fond memories.

7. Which book did you have the most difficulty reading?

I took a senior seminar class in college devoted entirely to William Faulkner. I read 8 of his novels and a handful of his short stories! My favorite books were As I Lay Dying and Light in August.

Though I enjoy some of his books, Absolom, Absolom! was a tough read for me. I barely made it through and only did so because it was required for class.

8. Which book on your TBR pile will give you the biggest accomplishment when you finish it?

This book is a doozy and comes in at a whopping 848 pages.

Though some might consider this long, I’ve heard it’s a phenomenal story and totally worth the investment.

Well, there you have it. This was such a fun post! Thanks again, Kerry McBookNerd for the idea. 🙂

  1. Lately a few people have high recommended Rebecca to be. I feel like this is a sign I need to get my butt into gear and read it already. Great tag!

  2. I love your answers! And now I’m interested in reading the Chosen Coven series. We live near Boston and I love seeing places I’ve been in books, as well.

  3. Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this website. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s challenging to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and appearance. I must say you’ve done a excellent job with this. In addition, the blog loads super quick for me on Opera. Exceptional Blog!
