6 for Sunday: Favorite Characters from a Series

I’ve been on a total Hunger Games kick lately, probably because of the new release of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. I’m eagerly awaiting a book delivery so that I can dive back into the world of Panem.

As I write this post, I’m watching Catching Fire (I’m at the part with the fog – poor Mags!). So, I decided, in honor of my love of The Hunger Games series, that I would pick my favorite six characters from the series.

1. Katniss Everdeen

She’s the perfect young adult dystopian protagonist. Skilled, smart, and disenfranchised, Katniss has many qualities and does many things that perpetuate a rebellion.

Ultimately, her sacrifices and her heroic actions instill hope in others and serve as a catalyst for change. Love her! She’s the girl on fire!

2. Peeta Mellark

Peeta is arguably my favorite character in this entire series. His loyalty, integrity, and goodness are just some of the qualities that I adore. He is sensitive and fair, determined and honorable.

On top of that, he is one of the bravest characters in the story, and his love for Katniss makes me happy. I adore the boy with the bread!

3. Finnick Odair

What can I say about Finnick Odair? I love him? His story ended too soon. His relationship with Annie was pure and true. He loved Mags deeply, and their relationship says a lot about his character.

He is a hero in so many ways, and his character showed that there are many different ways that you can protest and defy authority. This is one smart dude. As I’ve said before, my boy Finnick was done so incredibly wrong. 🙁

4. Haymitch Abernathy

Haymitch is the mentor for District 12 and an ally to Katniss and Peeta. He is jaded and sarcastic. An unwilling participant in the games, Haymitch spends much of his time angry and drunk, but steps up when Katniss needs him most.

He and Katniss seem to understand each other well. I love his biting remarks, his humor, and his charm.

5. Effie Trinket

Effie Trinket had such an interesting character arc. At the start of the series, she seemed to represent all that the Capitol stood for.

Though she initially blindly follows the dictates of society, she slowly comes to realize that the experiences in the Capitol are controlled illusions in comparison to the harsh, unfair, and violent control she witnesses during her time as a mentor. I loved watching her character change as the story progressed. Plus she has two of my favorite lines:

“May the odds be ever in your favor,” and “That is mahogany!”

6. Cinna

Cinna is the super-talented and very cool stylist for Katniss. He, like Finnick, proves that there are many different ways to dissent.

Using his costumes as a way to protest and encourage change is genius. From the costumes Katniss wears to the mockingjay pin he attaches to her clothes to the fan-fricken-tastic transforming wedding dress, Cinna defies the dystopian regime in the best way he knows – through design!

Well, there you have it! These are my favorite characters from the Hunger Games series! Who would make your list? Comment below!
