Top 10 Tuesday: New-to-Me Authors from 2020

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

The Topic This Week Is:

New-to-Me Authors from 2020

I feel like I’ve been very fortunate this year as far as books are concerned. The rest of the year has been a shit show, but my reading life is fantastic. Here I compiled a list of my favorite new-to-me authors and the books that I read by each (so far!). Take a look:

1. Anela Deen

About the Author: A child of two cultures, this hapa haole Hawaiian girl is currently landlocked in the Midwest. After exploring the world for a chunk of years, she hunkered down in Minnesota and now fills her days with family, fiction, and the occasional snowstorm. With a house full of lovable toddlers, a three-legged cat, and one handsome Dutchman, she prowls the keyboard late at night while the minions sleep. Coffee? Nah, she prefers tea with a generous spoonful of sarcasm.

2. Kalynn Bayron

About the Author: Kalynn Bayron is an author and classically trained vocalist. She grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. When she’s not writing you can find her listening to Ella Fitzgerald on loop, attending the theater, watching scary movies, and spending time with her kids. She currently lives in San Antonio, Texas with her family.

3. Victoria Aveline

About the Author: Victoria Aveline has always enjoyed immersing herself in a good romance. Alpha males are her weakness but, while possessive dominating heroes have always been titillating, she craved something more. So she decided to create a world in which devastatingly sexy men could be aggressive and domineering but still bow down before the matriarchy.

Victoria lives with her husband, dog, and about sixty thousand badass honey-making ladies. When not writing or fantasizing about future characters, she enjoys traveling, reading, and sipping overpriced hipster cocktails.

4. Elizabeth Stephens

About the Author: Elizabeth Stephens has been living in a fantasy world since she was 11, and in 2015 finally translated her imagination to print! An author of romantic suspense and science fiction, she is a big fan of inclusion and her books always include kick ass ladies of color.

When she isn’t found writing, you’ll also see her getting her hands dirty by throwing pottery, or working as a communications consultant for privacy and human rights organizations. With origins in Seattle, Atlanta, and Bamako, she currently lives in Berlin with her loving husband and doggo, King Louis.

5. Janella Angeles

About the Author: Janella Angeles is a Filipino-American author who got her start in writing through consuming glorious amounts of fanfiction at a young age–which eventually led to penning a few of her own, and later on, creating original stories from her imagination. A lifelong lover of books, she’s lucky enough to be working in the business of publishing them on top of writing them. She currently resides in Massachusetts, where she’s most likely to be found listening to musicals on repeat and daydreaming too much for her own good.

6. Cece Louise

About the Author: Cece Louise writes clean novels for teens and adults filled with adventure, romance, and spirit. An avid reader, Cece has been making up stories in her head as long as she can remember. A true believer that writing should be fun, she loves communicating with her readers and connecting with other writers.

In 2012, Cece graduated summa cum laude with a BBA from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. When she’s not working on her latest story, Cece enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids, weightlifting, and being outside.

7. Melissa Bashardoust

About the Author: Melissa Bashardoust (pronounced BASH-ar-doost) received her degree in English from the University of California, Berkeley, where she rediscovered her love for creative writing, children’s literature, and fairy tales and their retellings. She currently lives in Southern California with a cat named Alice and more copies of Jane Eyre than she probably needs. Girls Made of Snow and Glass is her first novel.

8. Kay L. Moody

About the Author: Kay L Moody is proud to be a young adult fantasy author. Her books feature exciting plots with a few magical elements. They have lots of adventure, compelling characters, and sweet romantic sub-plots. Most of her books have a dystopian flair. They include a variety of technology levels and lots of diversity in characters.

Kay lives in the western United States with her husband and four sons. She enjoys summertime, learning new things, and doing her nails.

Kay has been writing for years, and in 2018, finally decided it was time to publish. She loves books because they provide an escape from the world. She writes so that her books can provide both entertainment and edification. She believes that no matter how difficult life gets, a happy ending is never permanently out of reach.

9. Jenny Elder Moke

About the Author: Jenny Elder Moke writes young adult fiction in an attempt to recapture the shining infinity of youth. When she is not writing, she’s gathering story ideas from her daily adventures with her two irredeemable rapscallions and honing her ninja skills as a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

10. L.L. Crane

About the Author: Award winning author, L. L. Crane leads a double life. No, she’s not a spy, although she dreams of being one. In her other life, she’s the founder of Harp Learning Institute (under the name of Lisa Harp), where she and her staff treat children with learning disabilities. But her true passion is writing…especially fantasy.

L. L. Crane is the author of the popular Mark of Power Series and the thought provoking and adventurous Blue Spectrum Chronicles. Braving to cross through multi-genres, she’s recently dipped into her inkwell to write adult fiction and has written a children’s book.

A master of writing high fantasy and young adult dystopian fiction, L. L. Crane also writes with a flair for sweet romance and exciting, page-turning adventure.

In real life, gnomes litter L. L. Crane’s gardens, and she’s even designed and decorated a room in her house that she calls the fairy room. It’s all things magical and wonderful with an entire wall of doll houses, dragons, and wooden castles.

She is the mother of three adult children and the grandmother of two. She works with resin, designs fairy houses and “treeple people”, is an avid reader and gardener, and enjoys spending time with her family.
