Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. The Topic this week is:

Books That Make Me Smile

1. Beneath Cruel Fathoms by Anela Deen

When Leonel adjusts to life on land, he is confused by little things, like buttons and dancing. His innocent reactions are so endearing and totally brought a smile to my face.

Leonel’s nick-name is also smile-worthy. 🙂

2. If We Ever Meet Again by Ana Huang

Huang’s use of dialogue in this book is excellent, and the funny conversations between friends are realistic and comical.

I loved the quick and fun dialogue between Farrah and Blake, the main love story in the book, as well. They had great chemistry, and their adventures were definitely smile-worthy.

3. Go the F>ck to Sleep by Adam Mansbach

I listened to the audio of this, which is narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, and it was laugh-out-loud funny!

It starts off so sweet, but quickly turns into a humorous parental complaint.

4. A Little Bit Wicked by Robyn DeHart

The witty and teasing banter between the main couple in the story is fabulous, as is the love story.

Marcus and Vivian have great chemistry, and their conversations and HEA made me smile.

5. A Scot to Wed by Callie Hutton

A Scot to Wed is a quick and fun historical romance with a few humorous scenes.

This is another HEA romance, and those inevitably bring a smile to my face.

6. Ember Gate by Kay L. Moody

Talise’s powerful and motivational speech in Ember Gate made me smile. This is the eight book in the series, and I love that she has grown so much and is becoming a strong and respected leader.

The speech she gives here is her call-to-action, and her words definitely brought a smile to my face.

7. Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl

Technically, this is a short story, but the first time I read it I remember laughing (after I got over my initial surprise).

The verbal and situational irony in this story is fantastic!

8. Live Like Legends by Kate Cornell

There are several parts of the story that made me smile from the slow-burning romance to the communication troubles to the funny mentor.

Even the HEA made me smile. The book is a quick and interesting read with a bit of levity that I appreciated.

9. Tartuffe by Moliere

This is a satirical play with some excellent physical comedy. The puns, the snipes, and the inappropriate comments highlight the political and religious hypocrisy that prevails throughout the play.

The irony is out of control as well, and I laughed a lot when I first read it. It still brings a smile to my face.

10. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Elizabeth Bennett is smart and sassy, and her quick wit is fantastic. Between her sharp tongue, her mother’s dramatics, and her younger sisters’ immature actions, there’s plenty to smile about in this book.

Mr. Collins is also funny in his absurdity and ignorance. There are so many parts in this book that make me smile, especially the romance!

Well, there you have it. There are 10 books (Well, 8 books, 1 play, and 1 short story) that never fail to bring a smile to my face. How about you? Which books make you smile?

  5. Pride and Prejudice is so good! I really want to read, Go the F to Sleep!! My kid doesn’t sleep and I bet I would really relate and could use the humor. haha
