It’s such a fun way to look back on all of the fabulous books I’ve read and to look ahead at books I’d like to read in the future!

Beneath Cruel Fathoms by Anela Deen
If you saw my recent post Top 10 Favorite Fantasy Reads of 2020, you know that Beneath Cruel Fathoms is my favorite fantasy read so far this year.
I loved this story, and the romance was positively swoon-tastic! So, of course I had to include it with my most memorable reads that start with “B”.
If you notice, the second book in the series is on my anticipated TBR below! I’m not obsessed witht he series or anything. lol
Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall
This is such a great story, and I loved the romance! Luc and Oliver are fantastic, and the story is a quick and fun read. I love the fake relationship trope, so when I heard that was part of the story, I was excited to jump right in. (Just so you know, I wasn’t disappointed!)
This is a great rom-com that actually had me laughing out loud at different parts, and it was a perfect read when I was in my first weeks of Covid lock down scariness.
Birthmarked by Caragh M. O’Brien
I haven’t read this book in so long, but I feel like it was yesterday. I enjoyed this whole series, but the first book totally blew me away. Gaia is such a fantastic protagonist, and the story is unique and action-packed.
Of course, my favorite part of the book (well, most books really) was the romance. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a slow-building, slow-burning romance! They pull me in every time. lol
Becoming by Michelle Obama
I don’t read a ton of non-fiction, but I loved Michelle Obama’s Becoming. It’s a really interesting outlook into her life and the political events that transpired during her years in the White House.
She discusses everything from her childhood to her relationship with her husband and kids to her feelings about the current political climate. I must say, once I finished this book, I had even more respect and admiration for Michelle Obama, and she was already one of my idols.
A Breath of Eyre by Eve Marie Mont
I read A Breath of Eyre years ago when I was teaching Jane Eyre. I wanted to find a contemporary piece that complimented the story, and when I learned that the author was an English teacher too, I knew I had to read it.
It is a unique YA contemporary novel that blends the protagonist’s world with the world of Jane Eyre. It was a unique and interesting story with nods to many of my favorite classic pieces of literature.
Beyond the Highland Mist by Karen Marie Moning
Beyond the Highland Mist was the first book (definitely not the last lol) I read by Karen Marie Moning and it definitely piqued my interest not only in the author but also in highland romances.
It a great series with strong female protagonists, gorgeous warrior alpha males, a lot of romance, and just a hint of the supernatural.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel
This is a wonderful piece of historical fiction based during WWII. A young woman who uses her skills to help forge documents for Jewish children fleeing from the Nazis.
One of my favorite quotes from the story: ““She doesn’t understand what it means to love books so passionately that you would die without them, that you would simply stop breathing, stop existing.”
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
A classic dystopian novel, Brave New World is one of the first books I ever taught. It is a powerful and thought-provoking look at a society that seems like a hyperbolic extension of our own.
Recently, I’ve seen several clips of a show that’s based on this book. The cast includes Demi Moore, Joseph Morgan (He played Klaus in The Vampire Diaries. Yes, please!!) and Alden Ehrenreich (He was Han Solo in Solo). Call me curious! I definitely am going to check it out when it’s released.
Books on My TBR that Start With the Letter “B”
Between Savage Tides by Anela Deen
This is my most anticipated read for the second half of 2020. This is the second book in The Bitter Sea Trilogy, and I absolutely adored the first book in the series (see above). I have super high hopes for this one.
Between Savage Tides focuses on Isaura’s brother, who was captured by sirens and now must figure out how to escape and return home before he loses his memory. August 31st can’t come fast enough!!
Blue Deep by Cece Louise
This is the third book in Cece Louise’s series The Forest Tales, however, it can be read as a standalone. I loved the first two in the series, Desperate Forest and The Jabberwocky Princeess, and am already loving the look and sound of this one.
Blue Deep actually focuses on one of the not so nice characters from one of the other books, so I’m thinking this is going to be a redemption story. Louise’s stories are so immersive, and I love the characters, so I’m sure this story will rock!
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
I bought this book when it first came out, read the first chapter and the put the book down. I like the book but had other book commitments that couldn’t wait. Now, I really need to get back to it!
An extension of The Hunger Games trilogy, this story focuses on a young President Snow before he became President. It offers insight into the development of this dystopian society, and, hopefully, into the mind of a ruthless leader. I’d like to see what made Snow the way he is in The Hunger Games series, so I’m hoping this book offers some insight.
Before We Were Free by Julia Alvarez
Julia Alvarez is such a phenomenal storyteller, and I am determined to read all of her books. This is the next on my Alvarez TBR.
The story focuses on a young girl growing up in the Dominican Republic under Trujillo’s regime. This is the same time period of In the Time of the Butterflies, which I loved. I’m hoping this is as powerful and poignant a read as her other novels.
