There’s Some Humor Too – Funny Moments in Six of Crows

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by! Today I want to talk about the humor in a recent buddy read I did with Susan at Novel Lives. Now, typically when I think of a YA fantasy, I don’t think of humor, but Six of Crows has so many comical moments!

I guess an action-packed, edge of your seat, suspenseful book like this needs a bit of comic relief, right?

One of my favorite aspects of the story is the incredible dialogue, which is often filled with witty and sarcastic banter. It added so much to the story and character development, and I couldn’t get enough of it!

Six of Crows

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone. . . .

A convict with a thirst for revenge

A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager

A runaway with a privileged past

A spy known as the Wraith

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes

Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

Here are some of my favorite comedic lines and moments in Six of Crows:

If I want to watch men dig holes to fall into, I’ll find myself a cemetery

Inej

You wouldn’t know a good time if it sidled up to you and stuck a lollipop in your mouth.

Jesper knocked his head against the hull and cast his eyes heavenward. “Fine. But if Pekka Rollins kills us all, I’m going to get Wylan’s ghost to teach my ghost how to play the flute just so that I can annoy the hell out of your ghost.”

Brekker’s lips quirked. “I’ll just hire Matthias’ ghost to kick your ghost’s ass.”

“My ghost won’t associate with your ghost,” Matthias said primly, and then wondered if the sea air was rotting his brain.

Jesper, Kaz, & Matthias

“Kaz is … I don’t know, he’s like nobody else I’ve ever known. He surprises me,” “Yes, like a hive of bees in your dresser drawer.”

Jesper & Inej

I love puzzles. Trickery is just my native tongue

Kaz

I think that Jesper’s conversation about getting his ghost to learn the flute just to annoy Kaz’s ghost is my favorite! Which is yours? Do you have any other funny moments that you loved in Six of Crows? Comment below!
