First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

First Lines:

Before the beginning…

Memories were a tricky thing. They could elude you-or refuse to leave you alone. They could linger and linger-or refuse to return, no matter how hard you tried to recall them.

Can you guess the book?

Hint: It’s the second book in a fantasy duology.

Still Unsure? Here’s Another Hint: It’s by bestselling author Sara B. Larson.

I absolutely loved Sisters of Shadow and Light, the first book in the duology and was delighted to receive and ARC of Warriors of Wing and Flame. The sister relationship in this duology is so lovely, and the fantastical world is amazing!

    1. It’s a great duology. I love the author’s writing style, and the characters are great. Cool story and fantasy elements, and a bit of romance…I hope you like it!!

  1. So far, my fantasy TBR list consists of rereads- eventually want to go back and read Harry Potter and Narnia a second time.

As far as new fantasy goes- there is nothing on that TBR list. This is how Park Road Books can be helpful- they are really good at recommending books. Based on current books you love, they know how to recommend books that are like the ones you already read
