Hey there! This week I’m participating in Six for Sunday, a meme hosted by Steph at A Little But a Lot. This month, the focus is on book characters, and this week’s topic is:

Brave Main Characters

I decided to choose all female characters from young adult sci-fi/fantasy books for this topic. There are so many courageous characters, and I particularly like brave young female protagonists in YA literature. The six that I chose epitomize what it means to be fierce, brave, and strong. They all fight for what they believe in, and show tremendous courage while doing it. Let’s take a look!

1. Alyssa Farshot – Crownchasers

Alyssa loves adventure, and she never backs away from a challenge. She is also fiercely loyal and brave in the face of danger. I love her survival instinct, selflessness, and courage to fight for what she believes in.

She shows bravery the most when she is protecting or trying to save someone she cares for.

2. Sol d’Hillerod – Firefrost

Sol is amazingly brave and faces unfathomable obstacles in Firefrost. Avalanches, magical enemies, and more threaten her throughout the novel, yet her courage sees her through.

Sol is independent, stubborn, and intelligent, but her bravery stands out as one of her most admirable qualities.

3. Elora – Court of Bitter Thorn

Elora craves adventure, and when she has the opportunity to enter the fae realm on an epic quest, she doesn’t hesitate. I love this fierce protagonist who isn’t daunted by the immense obstacles that stand in her way.

She also isn’t intimidated by the more powerful beings that surround her, which is impressive.

4. Sophia – Cinderella is Dead

I love Sophia! Her determination to fight for what she believes in and to save her people from the injustices of society is so courageous and admirable.

Sophia also flees from the only world she knows, away from her parents, friends, and other loved ones, all in the name of justice. She bravely faces so many unknowns and reveals shocking secrets of her society. Very cool!

5. Katniss Everdeen – The Hunger Games

I mean, she volunteered as tribute. If that’s not one of the most selfless and brave acts, then I don’t know what is. She leaves District 12 to hunt for her family, she saves lives instead of taking them in the arena, and she puts her own life in jeopardy time and again to help and protect others.

Katniss is the ultimate bad-ass, in my book!

6. Keeley Smythe – The Blacksmith Queen

Keeley is a warrior. Her courage in battle is incredible!! I love her attitude and unwillingness to give in to fear. When all the other characters seems afraid or unsure, Keeley’s bravery and strength give them confidence.

Keeley is a leader and a hero, and she is unbelievably valiant.
