Hey there! This week I’m participating in Six for Sunday, a meme hosted by Steph at A Little But a Lot. This month, the focus is on book characters, and this week’s topic is:
Books That Give Me the Feels
Okay, this is a tough prompt because so many books make me feel all of the feels! lol When I read the prompt to my husband, he said, “Yeah, hon, you have a lot of love for a lot of books. How ’bout that one by that author you love?” Ummm…that so doesn’t narrow it down for me. lol So, I decided to focus on YA fantasy and still had trouble narrowing it down.
Let’s take a look at 6 YA fantasies that made me feel all the feels!
House of Earth and Blood by Sara J. Maas
Oh, this book. I think House of Earth and Blood moved me the most out of all of the books I read this year. I loved Bryce, and what she went through…my word!! There are two scenes in particular that absolutely destroyed me, and I was unable to talk about the story for days after I read it. I think I needed time to process the story and my feelings. lol I never even wrote a review of the book – I wouldn’t know where to begin, and I have a feeling that I would go on and on.
River Gate by Kay L. Moody
In River Gate, the protagonist talks about grief and loss so profoundly, and it deeply moved me. It brought up a lot of the feelings I have about losing my mother. Moody put into words exactly how I felt when missing my mom. I wrote about these feelings in my review, and do you know that I actually got a chance to chat with the author about it? How cool is that? She read my review and was touched by our shared parental loss.
Sisters of Shadow and Light by Sara B. Larson
I love Sara B. Larson’s writing style, and the imagery and symbolism in this story is as beautiful as the sister bond that the main characters share. It’s a fantastic duology, and it definitely made me feel all the feels. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Warriors of Wing and Flame, the second book in the duology, and I loved that one too!
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
The Six of Crows duology is AMAZING, and Crooked Kingdom all but destroyed me. Bardugo is a fantastic storyteller, and Crooked Kingdom is funny, sad, frightening, suspenseful, and more. I had so many different emotions while reading this book, and still think about how much it moved me.
The Ever After by Amanda Hocking
This is a great conclusion to the Omte Origins trilogy! It evoked such a range of emotions, and I remember feeling shocked and sad and mad and content all at the same time. There are a few jaw-dropping scenes that connect characters from the other two trilogies in the Trylle world, and they are fantastic!
Hood by Jenny Elder Moke
A story of Robin Hood and Marian’s daughter, Hood is an immersive and emotion-filled story. Isabelle is a fantastic protagonist, and I loved her fierce determination and strong-will. Witty banter, tons of action, touching connections, and murderous plots bring out all kind of reactions. I laughed, I cried – I definitely felt tons of feels reading this one!

Oh my, everyone keeps insinuating about House of Earth and Blood and I still haven’t got around to reading it yet!! It’s sat on my sideboard but I keep putting it off until I have a term break from school to read it! Haha!
It’s so good, but it’s… a lot. I wasn’t sure how I felt at the beginning, but about 1/3 of the way through – I fell in love with it!! It’s really well layered. I love the MC, and the slow-burning romance is fabulous, and the relationships/friendships in the book were EVERYTHING. Hope you get to read it ~ I’m curious to see what you think. 🙂

Haha love that comment by your husband. That would be me saying that to myself 😂 But there are so many to choose from! I’ve only read Crooked Kingdom and it was years ago, but that one defo gave me feels. I really need to read Crescent City coz Maas has been able to give me the feels in the past! Great picks 😃
SJM definitely knows how to bring out all of the emotions! You should have seen my husband when I finished Crooked Kingdom – literally walked in the room and said, “Who died? Was it Kaz?” lol He’s never read the books, but I talk about them so much that he knows the story.
I haven’t read any of these…but I plan to. I can’t even decide which books give me a lot of emotions cause it seems that nearly all of them do! Haha! Great post!

You summed up my feelings for The Crooked Kingdom so perfectly! It’s one of my favorite reads of the year. I didn’t expect to like the characters as much as I did.
Right! I adored them – can’t wait to see the Netflix series!!!
