My Review:

A quick and charming contemporary romance reunites high school sweethearts when Harmony returns to Willow Springs. Birley never forgot his first love, and when he hears that she has returned and is single like him, he wastes no time reconnecting. Still trying to figure her life out, Harmony only plans to stay in Willow Springs for a month, but her old feelings for Birley make her want to extend her stay.

As Harmony starts over after the death of her unfaithful, soon-to-be ex-husband, she learns so much about herself. Confused and floundering, her future is uncertain. However, while in Willow Springs, Harmony realizes who is important to her and what she wants for her future. I think reuniting with Birley and his family and meeting Birley’s children opens her eyes to the possibility of a future in Willow Springs.

Like Harmony, Birley deals with some emotional baggage too. A serious and responsible single father, his terrible marriage still haunts him, ever-growing threats plague him, and the responsibility of running the family business burdens him. I love that Harmony’s return brings Birley a bit of happiness, levity, and hope for a brighter future.

Harmony and Birley have a fantastic romance. They are so well suited to each other, and their chemistry is great! You can tell they had a strong connection when they were younger because there is an ease to their relationship, almost as if they picked up where they left off even though divorce, death, children, meddling family, and other life happenings have changed them. The couple faces many obstacles, including a vindictive ex-wife and a threat to Birley’s business, and it’s interesting to see how they handle everything together.

This is an interesting, well-developed, and character-driven story, and the secondary characters are as compelling as Harmony and Birley. I love Birley’s kids and the rest of his family, as well as Harmony’s family. Each character is dynamically-developed, unique, and realistic. I found myself wanting to know more about each of them, and I love how they add to the plot. Birley has a close-knit family, which very much plays into his life choices. His family also loves Harmony, and they give her a sense of belonging that she hasn’t felt in a long time. I like how they all work together and support each other even though they are quite different.

With a wonderful cast of characters, a lovely romance, and a little bit of intrigue, Harmony’s Embrace is a great contemporary romance set during the holiday season. I enjoyed this charming story and look forward to reading more by Amber Daulton. Thanks so much to the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
