Loving the Lines: Favorite Quotes from A Heart So Fierce and Broken

Hey there! I just finished my first read of 2021 and it was fan-tabulous! I enjoyed it so much that it inspired me to start a new post that I call Loving the Lines.

Basically, Loving the Lines is dedicated to books with stand-out quotes that need to be shared. I’m often moved by passages and lines from the books I read, and I thought this would be a great way to show the love!! Many thanks to all the wonderful writers who inspire, empower, entertain, and make people think. Today, that author is Brigid Kemmerer!

A Heart So Fierce and Broken is the second book in Brigid Kemmerer’s Cursebreakers series, and I wanted to read it before the January 26th release of A Vow So Bold and Deadly. Here’s a trailer for the series:

The second story in the trilogy focuses on Grey, and I wasn’t sure about the switch in perspectives when I first heard about the book. I loved Harper and Rhen in A Curse So Dark and Lonely and, as much as I loved Grey too, I was hoping for a continuation of Harper and Rhen’s story.

Well, I never should have doubted, and I regret taking so long to pick up the book. It was a great read, and a fabulous way to start 2021! I love the story, Grey, the new characters, the immersive world, basically everything about it!

Let’s take a look at some of my favorite lines from the book!

Favorite Quotes:

About Grey

And underneath it all, so tiny that I almost don’t acknowledge it, a kernel of pride that instead of magic bringing fear and torment, the way Lilith did, or pain and death, the way my sword would, my magic brought healing and trust, and that is not a small thing at all.

Grey

You said that not every problem can be solved by the end of a sword. I have carried those words with me for days… Since you made me realize that I am no longer a weapon to be wielded by another.

Grey

About Lia Mara

Two sisters, one heart.

Lia Mara

“That is what makes you dangerous. Not because you would ride in with a blade and take control, but because you could quietly sit in this chair, in the dark, with your book”—the corner of his mouth turns up—“and you could determine the best way to achieve what needs to be done.”

Grey

The most dangerous person at the party is always the girl sitting alone with a book.

Grey

Everything I want goes against everything my country needs.

Lia Mara

About Rhen & Harper

Prince Rhen is a brilliant strategist and a consummate gentleman, but he can also be petty in the most creative of ways. The curse changed him—in truth, it changed us both—but it did not lessen his ability to be vindictive. It did not lessen my ability to tolerate it either.

Grey

Rhen said he lost my trust, but I don’t think that’s true. I trust him the same way I always did: to put the safety of his kingdom ahead of everything else.

Grey

He stalked across the room like he wanted to wage war, but he kisses me like I’m the most delicate thing in the castle.

Harper

I spent so long waiting to find you that I worried fate might take you away.

Rhen

About Life

Choices are never easy. There are good and bad options, but the most dangerous is to not make any choice at all.

Iisak

Do not fault yourself for choices you believed were right in the moment.

Iisak

Nothing unifies people like a common enemy

Lia Mara

The world is full of men who underestimate women. Men who undermine them. I cannot rule from a place of weakness. I do not have the luxury of mercy and sympathy. Nor will your sister.

Karis Luran

When a man no longer deserves your loyalty, it is not a failing of yours.

It is not weakness to wish for peace.
