Love You Like A Love Song: A romance novel that is cliché but you still love it

Just a Girl has an office romance, which is a pretty common trope. Girl meets boy, and there’s insta-attraction. They realize they will be working together, but he is an executive and office romances are frowned upon. Of course, they can’t resist their feelings. It’s all a bit cliché, but I still loved it. 🙂

Rare: A book with a female protagonist unlike any other

Ava, the protagonist of The Book of Lost Names, is a phenomenal woman. Brave, intelligent, passionate, and willing to put her own life at risk to save others, Ava is a character whose story stays with you long after you finish it. She is a truly remarkable character.

Look at Her Now: A character who suffered a lot (physically/mentally) but eventually recovered and is now at the better end of life

I’ve talked about this series a ton on the blog, and Talise is one of my favorite characters in the story. She goes through so much, both physically and mentally, over the course of the series. This is a person who suffered and struggled and then suffered and struggled some more before gaining some semblance of peace and happiness. If anyone deserves a happy ending, it’s Talise.

Wolves: A book that got you out of a reading slump

I read this book right before I started this blog in 2020, and it totally pulled me out of a reading slump! I loved the dual timelines and perspectives. The characters were dynamic and the plot was so engrossing!

It Ain’t Me: A character you used to like but not anymore

I’m, sorry, Holden! We just don’t see eye-to-eye anymore. I taught this book at least a dozen times, and the more I read it, the more irritated I grew at Holden. Sorry again, Holden. It’s not you, it’s me. I just want to get this kid some help and then go yell at his absentee parents.

Feel Me: A character you can’t bear to see with anyone else but you

This is a tie between Rhysand from A Court of Mist and Fury and Leonel from Beneath Cruel Fathoms. I love both of them!!! I mean, check out this part of Beneath Cruel Fathoms:

Treasure, he called her in his language, and she sensed the true meaning in his tight embrace. He would never let her go. Neither would she.

“I have missed you,” he said softly. “Everyday.”

Sa-woooon!! I just love Leonel! However, Rhysand is not one to be outdone. Check this out:

“…if I had not met my mate…” His words failed him as silver lined his eyes.

He said down the bond, I would have waited five hundred more years for you. A thousand years. And if this was all the time we were allowed to have… The wait was worth it.

He wiped away the tears sliding down my face. “I believe that everything happened, exactly the way it had to… so I could find you.”

Now that’s some romantic stuff right there! I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to reread both stories to determine who my book boyfriend is! lol

Same Old Love: A book with an unoriginal and unrealistic romance

The hot and arrogant billionaire male falls in love with the beautiful female. However, she works undercover as his girlfriend (she’s actually a body guard), and he treats her horribly. He says so many mean-spirited and insulting things – I just don’t see hoe she could get past it. It was an unrealistic pairing, and the whole rich guy/lonely girl aspect felt really unoriginal.

The Heart Wants What it Wants: A book you regret finishing because you miss reading it

I absolutely adored The Song of Achilles! When I finished the book, after I composed myself, I hugged the book close and then relayed the entire story to anyone who would listen. So, basically my husband and kids listened to me go on and on about the book for days. I read it about a month ago, and I miss it already!

Back to You: A book you read again and again even though you have other books on your TBR pile

The Hunger Games is my go-to comfort read. I can’t even guess how many times I read the trilogy. This is another book that got me out of a reading slump, and it also reignited my interest in dystopian literature.

Hit the Lights: A book that just made you forget everything else

Oh, House of Earth and Blood, you destroyed me!! lol I admit the first five or six chapters of this book felt slow and bit like an info dump, but MY WORD!!! THE REST OF THE BOOK?!? I couldn’t put it down!

SJM is one of my favorite authors, and this story made me forget everything going on around me, which is good since I read this during the pandemic lockdown. It was a great bit of escapism, even if it emotionally devastated me, ripped out my heart, stomped on it, and then shoved it back in my chest.

Tell Me Something I Don’t Know: A book people keep recommending you which you already have on your TBR pile

Am I the only one who hasn’t read The House in the Cerulean Sea? it kind of feels like it. This book is so popular and so widely loved. It’s been on my TBR for a while, but I haven’t read it yet. However, I’m determined to read it in 2021!

I Can’t Get Enough: A book series/world you just want more and more of

Have you seen the pictures for the new Netflix show? I CAN”T WAIT!!! This is a series that I want more of. I love the characters, the setting, the carefully constructed plot – basically everything!!

Well, there you have it! That was so much fun! Thanks again to Nehal @ Books and Words for tagging me!
