First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

First Lines:

An incomparable idiot.

It was the only description for the man blocking Mercy Goode from the murder scene she’d discovered her own self.

And yet he had the audacity to sneer down at her in that condescending way menial men did when granted a little bit of authority.

Do you recognize the lines?

Hint: It’s a new book by Kerrigan Byrne.

Still not sure? Here’s another hint: It’s the third book in the Goode Girls series.

The First Lines Friday book is:

Dancing With Danger by Kerrigan Byrne

Series: Goode Girls – Book 3

Page Length: 219

Publication Date: Feb. 9, 2021

Synopsis: Mercy Goode, is only truly good at one thing: finding mischief wherever she goes. Such as getting arrested at a murder scene with Raphael Sauvageau, a brutally handsome, ruthless smuggler with a dangerous past and a dubious future. The silver-tongued devil doesn’t deserve a lick of her confidence, but she has evidence that he’s not the killer.

But she can’t deny that he’s relentlessly wicked.

Raphael has no time for obsession. He’s an empire to run, a murder to avenge, and a plan to save his brother that is likely a suicide mission. But this clever, infuriating bluestocking who insists she’s an amateur sleuth keeps showing up where she doesn’t belong. And for some bloody reason they can’t seem to be in the same room without him yanking her into his arms and kissing her until they’re both breathless.

Power, prestige, and a staggering fortune hasn’t filled the abysmal void where Raphael’s heart should be…

Perhaps what he needs is a night with her.

Perhaps what he needs is redemption.

Perhaps what he needs is a bit of Mercy.
