Book Review: Titanian’s Phoenix by Victoria Saccenti

About the Book:

Title: Titanian’s Phoenix

Author: Victoria Saccenti

Series: Titanian Chronicles

Publication Date: Jan. 15, 2021

Synopsis: She’s the mate he never expected. And she has powers she never asked for…

Maya Brown is New York tough. She doesn’t believe in magic—until she’s kidnapped along with her eccentric godmother, Anna. By elves.

Freed by a strange power, and reeling from bizarre revelations about her heritage, Maya follows Anna’s plea to seek out a man named Soren at—of all things—a magical bar. Maya doesn’t believe in love at first sight, either, but when she encounters seven-plus feet of muscle and mood-changing eyes, her body does a full-on reset.

Nothing shakes up Soren Westerberg, Titanian Enforcer assigned to NYC. Until a beautiful human woman with golden skin and lost brown eyes walks into a bar. In one trembling instant he knows that she’s his mate—who promptly faints away in his arms.

Their bond is instant, gloriously intense, and a miracle. Soren’s life scroll never foretold a mate, but now that he has her, he’ll protect her at all costs. Because she’s not just his—she’s also an extraordinary being coming into her power. And ready or not, that makes her a target of his cruelest enemy.

My Review:

Titanian’s Phoenix is a suspenseful and action-packed urban romance that follows Maya as she enters the world of the supernatural. Maya goes through a lot in this book. At the beginning of the story, she is completely unaware of the supernatural world and her role in it. However, she’s quickly thrust into the world and is immediately immersed in danger. After escaping a kidnapping, Maya flees to Soren, a Titanian that is sure to help her. She didn’t expect to find her fated mate in Soren. Nor did she expect to become entangled in solving the mystery behind missing supernatural beings.

As she adjusts to this new world, Maya also learns more about herself and her past. Her character is well-developed, and I found her journey fascinating. She is an independent and intelligent woman who is thrown into a new and dangerous world, and many of her freedoms are taken away from her. She loses an important part of her identity, since she basically has to leave everything behind and begin a new life with her mate. On top of that, she learns that much of what she’d been told in the past was a lie. Maya has so much to learn about who and what she is, as well as what she is capable of. Luckily, she has the help of her godmother, new friends, and Soren.

The steamy romance between Maya and Soren is the highlight of the novel. Eternal mates, their connection is palpable from the moment they meet. Though Maya grapples with her feelings about Soren and this new and unexpected life, their tether is strong and unbreakable. Soren proves understanding and supportive as Maya tries to process her feelings, which I love. His patience and restraint show just how much he cares for and respects Maya. Some lovely, heart-warming moments between the pair show the depth of their bond, and several steamy, swoon-worthy scenes show just how much passion they have for each other.

I also like the vivid imagery and the world-building. The author describes the supernatural elements and setting so clearly, which makes for an immersive read. The mystery is also intriguing and suspenseful. With missing and murdered beings, kidnappings, poisonings, lies, and betrayal, the story grips the reader right from the beginning. There are some aspects of the story that I wish were explored further, and some of the characters fell a bit flat for me. However, I have a feeling some of these topics and characters will be further developed in future books in the series. I think readers who like urban fantasy with steamy romances and a captivating mystery will enjoy this book. Thanks so much to NetGalley and Victoria Saccenti for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

  1. Well, I do enjoy a good PNR with hunky alpha males! LOL! It does seem to have a lot going on, though, so I can see how it probably lacked in not fully exploring everything. Great review!
