Synopsis: In bestselling author Ella Quinn’s intriguing new Regency trilogy, a dashing suitor must decide if love and marriage are mutually exclusive…

Viscount Gavin Turley is convinced that love matches cause nothing but trouble. Still, after months of courting, he’s fallen for Miss Georgie Featherton. He’s passionate about her, in fact. But words of love are not an indulgence he will allow himself. When he presents Georgie with his marriage proposal, he will lead with his head—not his heart. His qualifications as a husband are excellent, after all. What could go wrong?

No sooner does Gavin kneel on one knee than Georgie’s heart goes aflutter with joy. Finally, the proposal she longed for had arrived. Yet Gavin seemed to be listing his credentials for a business partnership, not a romantic union. Without a declaration of love, Georgie can only reject his offer—unless the ladies of the ton, and Georgie’s grandmama, have anything to do with it. For sometimes it takes a wiser eye to see the love behind a guarded heart—and a clever scheme to bring it out of hiding…

My Review:

When Gavin Turley proposes to Georgie Featherton, she is beyond delighted. However, her happiness is squelched when his proposal sounds more like a business proposition than a declaration of love. To make matters worse, when Georgie asks Gavin if he loves her, Gavin remains silent. Georgie, who wants to marry for love, refuses Gavin’s proposal and leaves town. Gavin determines to find her and convince her to marry him but knows he will never love anyone. Will Gavin realize his true feelings before it’s too late?

This is a quick and enjoyable read with fun characters and witty dialogue. It’s clear that the main characters, Gavin and Georgie, are in love with each other, but Gavon’s internal conflict stands in the way. He has to face his feelings and his preconceived notions of love before he can fully embrace a future with Georgie. As they get to know each other, they realize how well-suited they are, but doubts and fears threaten their happily-ever-after.

I found many of the secondary characters charming and interesting, especially the older, meddlesome dowagers. They are observant, astute, and not opposed to influencing the lives of those they love. I love how they work together to bring Georgie and Gavin together, as they seem to know what’s best for the couple more than Georgie and Gavin do.

Overall, this is a quick and light regency romance with a sweet love story. However, parts are a bit slow, and I wish that some of the characters were fully developed. I think readers who enjoy historical love stories will enjoy this book. Thanks so much to NetGalley, Zebra, and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Recommendations:

This is a good story for readers who enjoy quick and sweet historical romance with interesting characters, both primary and secondary.

  1. This sounds like exactly what I love about Regency Romance. Swoon worthy, self-doubt and trying hard to not let the other one know how you really feel. Nice review Julie.
