My Review:

The Ice Duchess is a wonderful, romantic novella and a prequel to Tracy Sumner’s Duchess Society series. After a terrible marriage to a man much older than her, Georgiana vows she will never remarry. A widow known as The Ice Duchess, Georgiana spends much of her time with The Duchess Society helping other women entering into marriage. However, when the love of her life, her brother’s best friend, returns, old feelings resurface.

Dex has known since they were kids that his relationship with Georgiana was special. When the geologist returns after being away for years, he realizes that his biggest mistake was not taking Georgiana with him. He loves her and has always been in love with her. Now, after making a promise to his dying father to find a wife before Twelfth Night, he just has to convince Georgie to take a chance on love.

Georgiana loves her freedom. Now a widow and financially independent, Georgiana controls her own life and doesn’t have to answer to anyone. Her loveless marriage took away her freedom, and it also took her self-worth and skewed her opinions about marriage. Dex has to work hard to show her that all marriages aren’t cold, demoralizing, and unfeeling. Georgiana changes quite a bit in the story as Dex slowly melts the ice around her heart.

I love the relationship between Georgie and Dex. They have such wonderful memories of growing up together, and they shared a beautiful friendship with her brother, which has since passed. They share many tender moments, and it’s clear they care for each other from the start. Dex is so determined to show Georgiana how much he cares for her, and he is positively swoon-worthy. I love how he woos her and makes her see how different a loving, trusting marriage can be. His love, affection, and thoughtfulness slowly win her over. Plus, they have off-the-charts chemistry!

A wonderful childhood friends-to-lovers, second-chance romance, The Ice Duchess is a quick and captivating read. It’s warm-hearted and passionate and is a great story for readers who like historical romance. Thanks so much to Tracy Sumner for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Rating:

Favorite Part:

  • The romance!!

Favorite Lines:

Your edge makes you interesting, Dex, in a sea of people who aren’t. They always have. The goal is to find the woman who will appreciate them.

Nostalgia has a bit, capable of injury, I’m finding.

If you have the luxury of choice, obtuse men are easier to control.
