My Review:

A Cowboy Christmas Legend is a heart-warming and compelling historical romance. However, it is more than just a love story. It’s a story about family, grief, healing, and second chances.

One of the strengths of the story is the dynamic character development, especially with the protagonists. Sam and Cheyenne are layered, complex characters, and they have such a wonderful love story. I adore Sam! He is a solitary man trying to start over after the murder of his wife. However, the murderer is still at large, and Sam can’t rest until he is caught.

Sam still grieves his loss, and he struggles with the trauma in his past, which is why he lives alone and away from any memory of his old life. It’s interesting because though he considers himself a solitary man, he has several close friends and a family who loves and visits him. He also develops a strong and quick connection to Cheyenne, whose parents he already knows fairly well. He has developed a support system of friends, and they often feel more like family in the absence of his own. A craftsman, Sam seems content but not very happy until he meets Cheyenne.

Cheyenne is an amazingly brave woman who fights for what she believes in. Like Sam, she struggles with things that happened in the past. She is a caring woman who puts her own life at risk to help others. She is fierce and strong, and her character is well-layered and interesting. She has such a vivacious personality, and her generosity knows no bounds.

Sam is beguiled by Cheyenne from the tumultuous moment he meets her. They have a wonderful connection and romance, and their chemistry is fantastic! They have such a deep admiration for and attraction to each other, and I love how they help each other heal. Cheyenne is like a balm to Sam’s soul, and with her, he begins to feel hopeful again. It’s like he finally came alive again when Cheyenne entered his life. Sam, in turn, makes Cheyenne feel safer than she’s felt in a long time. And the scenes when they emotionally open up to each other are beautiful! They seem to understand each other so well, yet they also keep secrets from each other. Luckily, their feelings for each other prove stronger than their fears, and their relationship gradually builds throughout the story.

Cheyenne and Sam find themselves caring for a very ill woman and her two children. This brings them even closer together, and there are so many heart-warming moments as they work together to help a family in need. It says a lot about their characters and their relationship that they are willing to put everything aside to help veritable strangers. And the kids are so sweet! They create this little found family and show Sam and Cheyenne a glimpse of their potential future together. Add some sweet and fun holiday moments, and my heart just about burst with hope for Sam and Cheyenne to find their happily-ever-after together.

As Cheyenne and Sam grow closer and care for their new friends, they also face the unlawfulness that is creating havoc in their area. There are whispers of a potential counterfeiting operation, the leaders of which could be the same men responsible for the murder of Sam’s wife. The closer Sam gets to the truth, the more his and Cheyenne’s lives are in jeopardy. It’s definitely an emotional ride, as Sam deals with survivor’s guilt and these new threats, and Cheyenne deals with panic attacks, fear, and guilt.

A heartwarming historical romance about love and second chances, A Cowboy Christmas Legend is a wonderful holiday read. Though it is part of the Lone Star Legends series, it can be read as a standalone, though I highly recommend the first book A Cowboy of Legend as well.
