Synopsis: Sink your teeth into this irresistible forbidden romance from USA Today bestselling author Stacey Kennedy about the vampire Warden of Charleston and the new-in-town witch who’s causing him all kinds of trouble…

Willa Farrington’s magic is broken. Shunned by her coven for failing to pass the Summer Solstice Rite, Willa escapes to the one place no witch belongs – Charleston, a city that belongs to vampires. Determined to embrace her new life, Willa opens Cauldron Boil Books, and unexpectedly finds some friends among the vampires…

Until one terrible night Willa ends up on the wrong side of a pair of fangs. Thankfully, her captor’s plan is ruined when Killian Constantine, the drop-dead gorgeous Warden of Charleston, shows up to save her. But just when Willa thinks she’s safe, Killian, rumored to be the most feared vampire in the city, furiously demands to know why she – a witch – telepathically called him for help.

Intent on finding answers, the two embark on a journey to unravel the mystery behind Willa’s attack and their unusual connection. As they get closer to the truth, the fiery passion between them ignites. But their forbidden romance isn’t making them many friends, and just as Willa starts to think that her entire existence is a lie, deadlier forces come out of the shadows. She will need to believe in her malfunctioning magic, trust bloodthirsty vampires, and cross her fingers that she and Killian make it out together… and that neither end up dead.

My Review:

The first book in a new series by Stacey Kennedy, What the Fang? follows Willa Farrington, a witch without magic. Banished from her coven years ago, Willa makes her home in the vampire-led city of Charleston. When she is attacked by vampires one night after work, Willa is rescued by the enigmatic and dangerous Killian Constantine, who is a vampire and the Warden of Charleston.

Killian doesn’t know why he could hear Willa’s pleas for help, but after seeing her attack, he suspects Willa’s danger is only beginning. Killian promises to keep Willa safe, but the stakes get higher and more deadly, and shocking revelations change everything. Will Killian be able to protect the witch he’s starting to fall for?

This is such a quick and fun read! I loved the characters and the story, and most especially the romance!! The world-building is also really immersive and intriguing. This is a world where witches and vampires live openly among humans and have created laws and rules to abide by. Though they have reached a tentative peace, power-hungry, blood-thirsty, and vengeful beings threaten to destroy everything leaders have worked so hard to create. Willa and Killian are drawn into many dangerous and potentially deadly situations, and they must figure out how Willa’s past relates to what is happening to her in the present.

Willa is a great protagonist, and I really enjoyed her character’s journey. She is strong and resilient, and though she’s led a difficult life of tragedy and eventual rejection, she maintains a great outlook. And Killian is a dreamy hero! I love a dark, mysterious, brooding love interest who is tender and loving underneath. That’s Killian! A powerful vampire and right hand to the leader, Killian has a reputation and is feared and respected by everyone. Of course, he’s much different when with Willa, as he lets her see past his stoic and intimidating façade.

The romance between Killian and Willa is fast-building and filled with chemistry. The sparks really fly with these two, and it’s pretty clear they have a connection from the start. Willa and Killian have great banter, and I love how they confide in and trust each other. The story also highlights some amazing friendships, and I really enjoyed this aspect of the novel. The found family element is strong, both in Willa’s and Killian’s lives, and there are some wonderful messages about friendship, family, and love. And Willa’s dragon is the cutest, fiercest, little protector, and I need one of my own! He was such a sweet and fun addition to the story, and I love the connection he has with Killian. So cute!

What the Fang? is a great story for readers who enjoy paranormal romances with mystery, humor, suspense, great characters, and a few plot twists to keep you on your toes. Thanks so much to the author and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
