1. Chloe Gong

These Violent Delights and and Our Violent Ends is at the top of my TBR pile. The more I hear about this duology, the more I want to read it!

About the Author: Chloe Gong is the New York Times bestselling author of These Violent Delights and its sequel Our Violent Ends. She is a recent graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she double-majored in English and International Relations. 2. Staci Hart

Staci Hart writes contemporary romance and rom-coms, and the stories sound super cute. I especially want to read The Bennett Brothers series, which is a spin on the Bennett’s from Pride and Prejudice.

About the Author: I was the kid who stayed inside to read.

As a four-eyed nerd with a bad perm, I was no one’s dodgeball pick, but I had a lot of friends. Frodo and Bilbo, for instance. Kristy, Stacey, Claudia and the gang (iykyk). Once, in the third grade, I wrote a teen murder mystery inspired by Christopher Pike. On solving my mystery in twelve pages, I decided I was a terrible writer and should never, ever do that again.

Fortunately, I didn’t take my own advice.

I write romance for that feeling you get at the end, like you’re standing on top of a mountain with a backpack full of hundred dollar bills. I write romcoms because is there anything better than banter and grand gestures? I write because I love to create and I love words. I love books, and I love stretching my imagination. I love love, and if you do too, bring your coffee and have a seat. I think we’re gonna be friends.

3. Kerri Maniscalco

I’ve heard so many fantastic things about Kerri Maniscalo’s writing, especially her Kingdom of the Wicked series and her Stalking Jack the Ripper series. I definitely want to check both out!

4. Naomi Novik

Novik wrote Spinning Silver and Uprooted, and I’ve heard great things about both.

About the Author: An avid reader of fantasy literature since age six, when she first made her way through The Lord of the Rings, Naomi Novik is also a history buff with a particular interest in the Napoleonic era and a fondness for the work of Patrick O’Brian and Jane Austen. She studied English literature at Brown University, and did graduate work in computer science at Columbia University before leaving to participate in the design and development of the computer game Neverwinter Nights: Shadow of Undrentide. Over the course of a brief winter sojourn spent working on the game in Edmonton, Canada (accompanied by a truly alarming coat that now lives brooding in the depths of her closet), she realized she preferred writing to programming, and on returning to New York, decided to try her hand at novels.

5. Tessa Bailey

Hook, Line, and Sinker has been all over social media lately, and it sounds like a swoon-worthy contemporary romance! I heard the same about It Happened One Summer. This is an author I need to read sooner rather than later!

6. Intisar Khanani

The moment I saw the cover of Thorn, I wanted to read the book. It’s gorgeous, and the story sounds so intriguing! One of my book buddies recommended the series, and we like a lot of the same books, so I have a feeling I’ll enjoy this one.

About the Author: Intisar Khanani grew up a nomad and world traveler. Born in Wisconsin, she has lived in five different states as well as in Jeddah on the coast of the Red Sea. She currently resides in Cincinnati, Ohio, with her husband and two young daughters. Prior to publishing her novels, Intisar worked as a public health consultant on projects relating to infant mortality and minority health, which was as close as she could get to saving the world. Now she focuses her time on her two passions: raising her family and writing fantasy.

7. Alexis Daria

You Had Me at Hola and A Lot Like Adios both sound like fabulous rom-coms, and I’ve already bought both of them. I’m hoping to get to them next month as part of my Beat the Backlist challenge.

8. Silvia Moreno-Garcia

When Mexican Gothic first released, readers raved about Morena-Garcia’s writing. I still haven’t read anything by the author, but I have an ARC of The Daughter of Doctor Moreau and am hoping to read it soon.

About the Author: Silvia Moreno-Garcia is the author of several novels, including Velvet Was the Night, Mexican Gothic, Gods of Jade and Shadow and Untamed Shore. She has also edited a number of anthologies, including the World Fantasy Award-winning She Walks in Shadows (a.k.a. Cthulhu’s Daughters). Mexican by birth, Canadian by inclination.

9. Elise Kova

How have I not read anything by Elise Kova? I love romantasy! It’s my favorite genre, and so many of my friends have recommended the author. I even bought a copy of Air Awakens but still haven’t read it.

10. Pat Barker

Barker wrote two Greek myth retelling that I really want to read – The Silence of the Girls and The Women of Troy. I own both and am determined to read them by the end of 2022.

About the Author: Pat Barker, CBE, FRSL was born in Thornaby-on-Tees in 1943. She was educated at the London School of Economics and has been a teacher of history and politics.

Her books include the highly acclaimed Regeneration trilogy Regeneration; The Eye in the Door, winner of the Guardian Fiction Prize; and The Ghost Road, winner of the Booker Prize; as well as seven other novels. She’s married and lives in Durham, England.
