The Questions:

What genre(s) do you tend to read the least often, and why?

I don’t read a lot of horror because I scare easily. Plus, I have super vivid dreams and when I read horror stories, my dreams always freak me out. lol Dark fantasy is as close to horror as I get, but if you put a Stephen King book in front of me, I will run in the other direction.

What is your favorite snack and/or beverage to read with?

Popcorn and sparkling water. I love a nice bowl of buttered popcorn while read, and sparkling water is my go-to drink.

Were you always a reader or did you have a “book lover” origin story later in life?

I was always a reader. I have very fond memories of walking to the neighborhood library with my mom and checking out books. I used to play library when I was a kid, and my mom even bout me a date stamp so I could fake check out books. lol She was an avid reader as well and probably read 2-3 book a week, so I definitely got my love of reading from her.

Name a book you associate with a specific reading memory (i.e. I read this book on the top of a mountain, with my best friend, etc).

I buddy read Catching Fire with a friend who was obsessed with the series as I was, and we got in a nice debate over Katniss and her love triangle. She was Team Gale, and I was Team Peeta. We were both English teachers, and we annotated the book as we read and marked key passages that supported our opinions and shared them with each other.

It was so much fun, and we both enjoyed the book so much that we both started talking about it with our classes. They seemed interested too. We ended up buying classroom sets of the series, read it with our 11th graders, and turned our buddy read discussions into a lesson plan about argumentative writing. It was great!

What’s the most recent book you reviewed, and how did you like it?

I just reviewed A Crown of Hopes and Sorrows by Nicole Bailey and LOVED it. It’s the second book in the Apollo Ascending series, and it’s such a fantastic read. I love all of Bailey’s books, but this one was definitely my favorite and one of my top 10 reads of the year. If you like Greek myth retellings, you should totally check the series out!!

My Questions:

  1. If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would you choose?
  2. What has been your favorite read so far for 2022?
  3. What book has been on your TBR the longest?
  4. Describe your current read in three words.
  5. If you could only read three authors for the rest of your life, who would you choose?

  1. congratulations on the award!! AND WELCOME TO THE WE-STAY-AWAY-FROM-HORROR CLUB!! nightmares are scary things, AND WHO NEEDS HORROR ANYWAY WHEN THERE’S AMAZINGNESS CALLED DARK FANTASY am i right?? ALSO THE HUNGER GAMES READING MEMORY YOU SHARED SOUNDS LIKE SO MUCH FUN, i feel kind of jealous i wasn’t in that grade of year 11s haha

    1. Hahaha – you are so right! I want to be entertained not scared within an inch of my life. 🙂 And thank you! That class was so much fun, and I think the students really enjoyed it. The best way for teachers to encourage a love of reading is to read books that will interest them. 🙂

  2. That is an AMAZING buddy read!! haha. I was totally team Peeta! <3 I do not like to read horror at all.. I'm a big ol' chicken! I am not in shape enough to always have to run up stairs, when I turn the lights off. I don't know why, I always think someone is chasing me. haha

    1. Yay Team Peeta! Yeah, horror is too much for me. When I was younger I watched Nightmare on Elm Street and a guy gets sucked into the bed. I slept on my floor for two weeks – would not get in my bed because I knew Freddy was coming for me. hahahaha Total chicken!!

      1. hahahaha, omg!! I watched arachnophobia. GIANT mistake. I think my dad was watching it and we were all just in there playing and I kept looking. There’s a scene where TONS of spiders come out of the shower head. I am STILL scared to close my eyes when washing my face/hair in the shower!! haha. I have screamed several times when I thought I felt something crawl on my face.. it was my HAIR. hahaha
