My Review:

Wow! What an intense ride! Spark of Ash is the last book in the Ember of Night trilogy, and there was never a dull moment for Harley and her friends. Kidnappings, learning to harness incredible power, testing the bonds of family and friendship, embracing one’s future, fighting against the corruption of power, and more make for a super intense read.

At the start of Spark of Ash, the Seven have Ray, Harley’s little sister, and have used Draven to take her. Furious, terrified, and determined to get the two most important people in her life back, Harley enlists the help of her allies to take down the Seven and get Draven and Ray back. Harley and her crew must hunt down the scrolls that counteract the Seven’s power, but danger lurks around every corner.

Love, friendship, family, peace, safety – these aren’t things one would expect the Antichrist to desire, but that’s exactly what Harley longs for, and I love how far she’s come over the course of the trilogy. Harley is a survivor, and she really comes into her own in this story. She is more self-assured and takes control. She is a leader and a force to be reckoned with, which is fantastic and fearsome. What I love most is that Harley always fights for the things and the people she loves, and it all comes to an explosive climax in this story.

Another highlight of the story is the romance between Harley and Draven. They share such a deep and unbreakable bond, and it is put to the test in this book. They are endgame, and I was so hoping that they would find their way back to each other. It seems pretty impossible since the Seven have taken him, erased his memories, and are using him to lure Harley. However, they underestimate the connection Harley and Draven share and their determination to be together. Every time they’re together, you can feel the chemistry between them, and there are some wonderful, tender (and spicy) scenes that highlight what Harley is fighting for.

The found family aspect of the story is fantastic. I love this unusual family Harley has forged. Each of the characters is unique and well-developed, and I love how, though they are very different, they all mesh together well. And I adore the relationship between Draven and Ryder! They’ve been apart for so many years, and each carries so many burdens. It’s wonderful to see these brothers reconnect. The friendship between Harley and Cassiel is also great, as is Harley’s reconnection with her father. Oh, and Ryder and Wallace? Yes, please! I loved them! All of these relationships are layered and dynamic, and they offer a bit of humor, levity, romance, and hope in otherwise Earth-shattering situations.

I thought this was a great ending to the trilogy. It was fast-paced, action-packed, and there were many unexpected twists. I loved the characters and the romances, and even the parts that broke my heart a little. The world-building is also on point and continues to expand throughout Harley’s journey. And they go to some really harrowing, and some really fascinating, places! It’s such an engrossing conclusion to the trilogy, and the ending is everything I wanted and more.
