Top 10 Tuesday: Comfort Reads

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is:

Comfort Reads

Fun topic! When I think of comfort reads, I think of books that bring me joy and give me a chance to escape for a while. I used to reread all of the time and definitely had my share of comfort reads. Lately, I still reread, though not as much as I used to. But I definitely have some go-to authors when I need to get out of a reading slump or if I’m looking for a comfort read or reread Instead of doing comfort reads, I’m going to share my favorite comfort authors and my favorite books by those authors. Let’s check them out!

1. Suzanne Collins

I can’t even guess how many times I’ve read this series. lol I’ve read it for fun, I bought copies to read with my students, I’ve created lesson plans focused on the novel, and I’ve done a bunch of blog posts about my love of it. If I’m in a major reading slump, The Hunger Games always gets me out of it.

2. Alice Oseman

This is my newest comfort author/read, and I absolutely adore it!! I’ve read the series twice already and watched the tv series too. It’s as good as the books, and I’m super excited that it was signed on for another two seasons!

3. Sarah J. Maas

ACOMAF is one of my favorite all-time reads, and Throne of Glass is the first book I read by SJM. I adore them both as well as House of Earth and Blood, which moved me in ways I never expected. I’ll basically read anything Sarah j Maas writes!

4. Nora Roberts

Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel we’re my favorite authors when I first started reading adult romances. I still love Roberts books and have reread many of them! To date, she is my most-read author.

5. Jane Austen

If I’m in the mood for a classic, I’ll definitely pick up Pride and Prejudice! I love the characters and the love story. Plus, Mr. Darcy ❤️❤️❤️❤️

6. Leigh Bardugo

This is another author that I adore. Bardugo is such a fantastic storyteller, and if I’m in the mood for a good ya fantasy, she’s the author I often turn to.

7. Mary Kay Andrews

Mary Kay Andrews is the queen of summer reads, and I always look forward to her releases. They’re always so fun and immersive, and they generally have great summer vibes.

8. Annie Rains

Annie Rains is another fairly new comfort author. I started reading her books last year and was hooked. This is definitely an author that will be at the top of my rereads. The stories are great and the romances are lovely.

9. Lynsay Sands

Whether it’s paranormal romance or historical romance, Lynsay Sands is an author that I can count on to whisk me away to a different time or place. Her romance are super swoon-worthy, and the stories are always so engrossing.

10. Danielle L. Jensen

I’m such a bug fan of Danielle L. Jensen and have read almost all of her books. Definitely a great comfort author if I’m looking for a super immersive romantasy!

Well, there you have it – 10 comfort authors that I adore! Are any of these on your list? Who are some of your comfort authors? Comment below!

  1. Yes, to Heartstopper!!! So good. I don’t re-read often but I have read Pride and Prejudice a few times! It’s just so good. Great list!

  2. Heartstopper is definitely such a comfort read (and watch) for me too! (So happy there will be 2 more seasons of the show!)
And also Sarah J. Maas and Leigh Bardugo!

  3. Great list, Julie! Austen was there on mine as well cos *classic* 😍 But I also have been wanting to read a Nora book again for ages now. I started off my romance journey with her and yet it’s been years since I picked up a book by her. Feel like that needs to change! Also, definitely need to read more Jensen and I can’t wait to read the next book in the TBK series together! 💜

    1. OMG – I’m so excited for our buddy read, Dini!! I’m loving TBK series as a whole, and I’ve heard a lot of positives about the new one. My romance journey began with Nora Roberts and Danielle Steele. I don’t love DS as much any more, but I still enjoy a NR from time to time!

  4. The Hunger Games! I’ve reread it several times, as well, but it’s been several years now. I’m so happy to have finally picked up Heartstopper. I’m enjoying the adaptation, as well. I so want to reread the Six of Crows duology sometime soon. I finally read it for the first time in 2020 but I read it so fast, it needs a reread. 😉

  5. I read The Hunger Games and enjoyed it, but for me it wouldn’t be a comfort read, which just shows that readers all look for different things. I keep saying I want to try Annie Rains books, but haven’t yet. I should see if she has one with Summer in the title to fit my 20 Books of Summer challenge. Great list, you have a few authors here that I have been meaning to get to.
