My Review:
Fates Chosen is an exciting and entertaining fantasy about a woman who learns she is destined to bring balance to a world she never knew existed. Evie Monroe feels lost. She has always felt she was missing something, and she doesn’t have much direction, especially since her beloved gram died. But she never expects her life to change so drastically when a stranger knocks on her door.
Milo is the captain of the Stalwarthian Guard tasked with bringing Evie back and helping her in her quest to bring balance back to their world. Evie not only has to face a world where faeries and other supernatural beings exist but also embrace her role as the chosen one. With the future of the world on her shoulders, and threats lurking everywhere, Evie faces insurmountable obstacles.
Evie is such a fantastic protagonist, and I thought she was really relatable and funny. She acts much like I think I would if I found out there was a whole other supernatural world, and I was the key to saving it. She avoids, she drinks, she complains, and then she begrudgingly begins to prepare. Though other characters become frustrated with her, I totally understood Evie’s reactions to everything. It’s like everything she knew to be true about herself and the world around her has been turned on its head, and she struggles to adjust to this new life. Who wouldn’t?
Evie is drawn to Elysian even before she knows about it, and once she gets there, her life is irrevocably changed. This is a world that’s vastly different than the one she grew up in, and it’s interesting to see how she adjusts to all of the changes. The world-building is rich and immersive, and the mythology of the world is intriguing and mysterious. The story is also entertaining and well-paced, with action, intrigue, humor, lies, betrayals, and more. Evie is really tested as she faces impossible odds and so many high-stakes situations. Luckily, she has many people on her side to help her in her quest.
There’s a great slow-burn romance that has a ton of tension and chemistry. Evie feels connected to Milo from their first meeting, and the tension between the two is palpable. There’s a great push-and-pull dynamic between them, and I was really excited to see where their relationship would lead, especially considering Milo has secrets that could change everything. There’s also a bit of a love triangle with Evie, Milo, and another dynamic character. I’m not a big love triangle fan, but I was really torn between Evie’s two love interests. They’re both pretty fantastic, and I could totally see why she was so confused. However, it seems like there’s one that she favors over the other.
In addition to the love stories, there are some other fabulous relationships explored in the story. Evie’s connection to her grandmother is strong, and even though her grandmother has died, it’s clear they were very close. Evie also has a best friend named Wyatt who has been there for her for years. Evie feels tremendous guilt for how she left, and she’s heartbroken over losing him when she had to leave the mortal world. Milo and his best friend have a bond similar to the one Evie and Wyatt share, and this friend also befriends Evie. I love that these two strong, fierce women forge a friendship, and their scenes together are fantastic. Evie gains many new and interesting relationships, and I love the banter she shares with each. I think it says something about her character that so many others want to help her and fight by her side, and it says something about the writer that I became as emotionally invested in the secondary characters as I did with Evie.
I thought this was a captivating fantasy. It’s engaging and immersive, and the relationships and plot are fantastic. There are also a few surprising twists, and after that ending, I can’t wait to read the next book. Shocking! Special thanks to L.M. Rhys for gifting me a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

Evie is great. There were some good laugh-out-loud moments, and others where I wanted to shake some sense into her. But it all made sense considering what she was going through. Also, she’s not a teen – she’s in her 20s, which I liked too!
