Top Ten Tuesday: Books on My Winter 2022-2023 TBR

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week, the topic is Books on My Winter 2022-2023 TBR. I have a couple dozen books already planned for the rest of the year and into 2023. Some, I received from NetGalley, some are upcoming buddy reads, and others are books I received in the mail from publishers. It should be a busy few months of amazing reading!

1-3. Lady Smoke, Ember Queen, & Stardust in Their Veins

The first three books are all by Laura Sebastian. Lady Smoke and Ember Queen are books 2 & 3 in the Ash Princess Trilogy, and I’m buddy reading both with Leah. We buddy read Ash Princess too and really enjoyed it, so I’m excited to continue the series. Stardust in Their Veins is the second book in Sebastian’s Castles in Their Bones series, and I was luck enough to receive and advanced copy of it. I LOVED the first book, so I have high hopes for book 2, which releases on February 7th.

4. In the Lives of Puppets

I was just approved for In the Lives of Puppets by T.J. Klune last week on NetGalley, and I’m not exaggerating when I say I squealed and did a little happy dance.

I adore Klune’s books, and I’m thrilled I received an advanced copy of this one. Leslie and I are going to buddy read it soon!

5. Saint

I loved Fable and Namesake, so when I heard Adrienne Young was doing a prequel that focused on Saint, I jumped right on the computer and preordered it. lol I

‘m so intrigued by this one and am curious to learn more about Saint’s backstory and his relationship with Fable’s mother. Plus, that cover!!! So stunning, like Fable and Namesake’s.

Leslie, Dini, and I are going to buddy read this.

6. Time’s Orphan

I loved the first two books in Hayley Reese Chow’s Odriel’s Heirs series, so when she offered me a copy of her upcoming third book, I jumped at the chance. Time’s Orphan releases in February, and I am excited to get back into this world.

I recently read Night of Ash, which is a novella that takes place between books 2 and 3, and it was fantastic!! Tons of action and suspense, and if that’s a precursor to Time’s Orphan, I might have to prepare myself. lol

7. Stone Blind

A mythological retelling by Natalie Haynes? Yes, please! lol I love myth retellings, especially when they’re from the female perspective.

I admit, I was a bit hesitant to read Stone Blind at first. I’ve never been a huge Medusa fan. Firstly, because I got in a fight with one of my friends in elementary school, and she told me my hair looked like Medusa’s. Obvs, I never got over it. lol Secondly, I’m afraid of snakes, so Medusa kind of freaks me out. I still want to give this one a shot thought because I love Haynes’s other books.

8-10. The Poppy War Trilogy

This is another buddy read that I’m planning for the winter with Dini and Leslie. I have a feeling this is going to be an amazing journey, though I’m afraid it might rip my heart out, much like Babel did. lol

  2. Great list! I loved In the Lives of Puppets. I dropped everything else to read it immediately. Lol. I’ve also heard great things about Laura Sebastian. So, I hope you enjoy those. The Poppy War is super high on my TBR, but I don’t know if I’ll get to it this winter. I’d love to, though, because I was obsessed with Babel.

    1. I can’t wait to start it!! I love all of Klune’s books so much! Thank you. If you like slightly dary ya fantasy, I would totally recommend Sebastian. I loved Babel too and actually met the author a month or so ago. She was doing a lecture at a local university. And I got her to sign my copy of Babel. Soooo excited about that. I think it was one of my highlights of the year. Dini, Leslie, and I are going to buddy read The Poppy War trilogy probably in Jan or Feb. If you want to read with us, let me know! 🙂

  3. Stardust in Their Veins is one I am excited for too! The Poppy War trilogy is one of my favorites. 😍 I’ve read them twice, haha. I need to add it to my reread list.

  8. Oooh you have some amazing reading ahead of you, Julie! I’ve just finished Time’s Orphan, and it was my favourite book of the series. Also, you are definitely going to have to prepare for the Poppy War trilogy, it’s amazing, but sooo emotional. I hope you enjoy them all 😀
