Sundays in Bed With… A Romance and a YA Fantasy!

Happy Sunday! I’m back today with “Sundays in Bed With….” a meme that dares to ask what book has been in your bed this morning. Come share what book you’ve spent time curled up reading in bed, or which book you wish you had time to read today!  This meme was originally hosted by Midnight Book Girl.

Today, I’m reading two very different books. The first is A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir. This is the second book in An Ember in the Ashes series, and I’m buddy reading the series with Ali @ Ali’s Books. We’re both enjoying it, even though we just got to a heart-wrenching part of the book.

I’m also reading A Gentleman Ought to Know by Jane Ashford. This is the fourth book in The Duke’s Estates series, and I’m about halfway through already. I’m hoping to finish this one today so I can start Shadow Flames, the third book in Jina Bazzar’s Shadow Walker trilogy. Super excited for that one!

About A Torch Against the Night:

Set in a rich, high-fantasy world inspired by ancient Rome, Sabaa Tahir’s AN EMBER IN THE ASHES told the story of Laia, a slave fighting for her family, and Elias, a young soldier fighting for his freedom.

Now, in A TORCH AGAINST THE NIGHT, Elias and Laia are running for their lives.

After the events of the Fourth Trial, Martial soldiers hunt the two fugitives as they flee the city of Serra and undertake a perilous journey through the heart of the Empire.

Laia is determined to break into Kauf—the Empire’s most secure and dangerous prison—to save her brother, who is the key to the Scholars’ survival. And Elias is determined to help Laia succeed, even if it means giving up his last chance at freedom.

But dark forces, human and otherworldly, work against Laia and Elias. The pair must fight every step of the way to outsmart their enemies: the bloodthirsty Emperor Marcus, the merciless Commandant, the sadistic Warden of Kauf, and, most heartbreaking of all, Helene—Elias’s former friend and the Empire’s newest Blood Shrike.

Bound to Marcus’s will, Helene faces a torturous mission of her own—one that might destroy her: find the traitor Elias Veturius and the Scholar slave who helped him escape…and kill them both.

About A Gentleman Ought to Know:

Charlotte Deeping needs something to keep her occupied now that she’s back home after her first London season. She misses solving local intrigues with her school friends, but they’ve all gone off and gotten married. Then Laurence Lindley, the Marquess of Glendarvon, comes for a visit, and drops a mystery right into her lap.

When Charlotte’s brother makes her promise not to interrogate the marquess, she agrees. But that only means she’ll have to find more subtle ways to learn about the mysterious marquess and his past. The more time they spend together, the closer Charlotte gets to finding answers, and to Laurence. That is, until Charlotte’s digging rouses an old vendetta and Laurence has to delve into his own history to help the young lady he’s come to love.
