Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Today, the topic is Favorite Book Quotes, so I decided to pick 10 favorites from a recent read of mine: A Feather So Black by Lyra Selene.

About A Feather So Black:

Title: A Feather So Black
Author: Lyra Selene
Series: Fair Folk #1
Page Length: 482
Publication Date: March 12, 2024
Publisher: Orbit
Synopsis: Set in a world of perilous magic and moonlit forests, this seductive romantic fantasy tells the story of a defiant changeling, her cursed sister, and the dangerous fae lord she must defeat to save her family.
In a kingdom where magic has been lost, Fia is a rare changeling, left behind by the wicked Fair Folk when they stole the High Queen’s daughter and retreated behind the locked gates of Tír na nÓg.
Most despise Fia’s fae blood. But the queen raises her as a daughter and trains her to be a spy. Meanwhile, the real princess Eala is bound to Tír na nÓg, cursed to become a swan by day and only returning to her true form at night.
When a hidden gate to the realm is discovered, Fia is tasked by the queen to retrieve the princess and break her curse. But she doesn’t go alone: with her is prince Rogan, Fia’s dearest childhood friend—and Eala’s betrothed.
As they journey through the forests of the Folk, where magic winds through the roots of the trees and beauty can be a deadly illusion, Fia’s mission is complicated by her feelings for the prince…and her unexpected attraction to the dark-hearted fae lord holding Eala captive. Irian might be more monster than man, but he seems to understand Fia in a way no one ever has.
Soon, Fia begins to question the truth of her mission. But time is running out to break her sister’s curse. And unraveling the secrets of the past might destroy everything she has come to love.

1. “A story, once told, exists beyond the truth of the thing that inspired it.”
2. “I was made of earth and sky and endless waters. I was made to be loved fully, or not at all.”

3. “If you are sharp with broken thorns, let them cut me. If you churn with dark shadows, let them engulf me. And if your love only destroys, let it destroy me. I am already a doomed man.”
4. “Dreams didn’t always happen while you slept. And things didn’t have to make sense to be real.”
5. “You will always be more to me than that. My best and only friend. My first love. The girl I want to tell about my good days, the girl I want to tell about the bad. The person who knows me better than I know myself. What you are to me cannot be named.”

6. “A friend once told me our lives are like a great lake.” His voice, when he finally spoke, was dark as purple hellebore. “Each moment in time is a stone tossed in the water. Our memories are the ripples, washing over us until at last they fade. The bigger the moment, the stronger the ripple.”
7. “Names are poetry.”
8. “If you knew what a rude houseguest I am, you wouldn’t go to such lengths to keep me.”
“If I wanted you,” he drawled, “I would go to any lengths to keep you.”
9. “Forbid a child from playing with a toy, and they will want to play with nothing else. Give it to them, and they will soon tire of it and move on to other pursuits.”

10. “Blood of my blood
And bone of my bone,
I shall not permit thee
To wander alone.
Give me your heart
And let it be known
That then, now, and after
You are my home.”

Great quotes! I read this book but it wasn’t for me.
I picked this one up in March, and then life happened and I haven’t opened it yet. With these lines as a teaser, oh yes, bumping this up the TBR! 😀
I hope you enjoy it when you get back to it!
I have not read A Feather So Black, but I love these quotes.
Quote #6 and #10!!! I love a good rhyme and that last quote makes me want to read this so I can feel (what I’m sure is/was) the emotional punch of that quote in context. 😂 Great picks!
Yes!!!! They are both great quotes, and that last quote definitely packs an emotional punch. 🙂
#3 is such a powerful quote. I love it! Excellent list 🩷
