An entertaining romance with humor and heart, Wild Goose Chase was a quick and fun read. The story revolves around finding out about this mysterious goose, which it’s illegal to have. As an antique dealer, this situation could adversely affect Cal’s career and reputation. When Annie comes to work with Cal for a short time, the goose is accidentally taken by a client while on Annie’s watch, so she insists on helping Cal get it back. What ensues is a – you guessed it – wild goose chase to find the artifact.
Annie and Cal are both layered and interesting, and they very much have an opposites attract kind of love story. Cal is very serious and devoted to his work, but it tends to consume him. Annie is more of a creative type with a bubbly and vivacious personality. She’s charming, whereas he’s quite reserved and hard to get to know. I love how they grow closer and learn more about each other and what led them to this point in their lives. Cal’s need to fulfill what he thinks are his deceased mentor’s wishes very much guides him, and Annie’s creative new business plan is her main focus. Though they’re very different and have different paths, they complement each other so well. And their chemistry and banter are fantastic.
The story also delves into the past with origins of the goose and the pair that found it. It’s like two romances in one – one in the present and one in the past, with both revolving around this unusual goose. I’m not one to complain about an extra romance. lol Overall, I thought this was a fun read with a unique premise and a wonderful romance. There are great messages about growth, being true to yourself, and learning to open yourself up to love and connection.
