First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author, or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
First Lines:
You’d think stealing a queen would be easy for a Shadowwraith. Considering I once kidnapped a princess from this very palace and no one stopped me, it should be. But that was beofre Eidolon, the King of Tyndra, moved in.
Do you recognize the lines?

Here’s a hint:
It’s a new fantasy release and the second in the series.

Still not sure? Here’s another hint:
It’s written by Abigail Owen.

The First Lines Friday book is:
The Stolen Throne
About the Book:

Title: The Stolen Throne
Author: Abigail Owen
Series: Dominions #2
Page Length: 460
Publication Date: May 2, 2023
Publisher: Entangled: Teen
Synopsis: My twin sister is the true queen of Aryd. She survives, hiding and clinging to life in the desert, while I reign as the false queen alongside the monstrous King Eidolon. There’s only one escape from this gilded prison: Reven. My Shadowraith. My heart. Only the shadows that he struggles to control are growing more sinister, more powerful.
It’s just a matter of time before they turn on him…and on me.
Even escape doesn’t mean true freedom, though, when we’re still on the run from Eidolon’s unstoppable armies. And when we discover there’s a traitor among us, I have no choice…I must become the queen I was never meant to be.
Because as one evil hunts me, the other loves me more than himself.
And my fate lies with both.

Did you guess correctly? What do you think of the first lines? Comment below!
Hi One Book More,
this is an interesting challenge. Thank you for sharing.
The first lines cut to the chase and introduced 4 potential characters, one of which is seemingly to be determined the main character of the evolution of the plot.
If you could, could you provide a link to wanderingwords? I tried clicking the hyperlink associated with the ‘Wandering Words’ text and it was a dead link.

Did you like the first one in this series? The covers are gorgeous, so I’m interested….
I did. I actually liked the first more than this one, but I still want to continue the series.
I didn’t get it haha! The cover and lines are intriguing though.
