Keeper of My Heart is the third book in the Morgan’s Grove series, and I was really looking forward to reading it after enjoying Love Starts Here (Book 1) and Meet You Under the Stars (Book 2). Going back to Morgan’s Grove was wonderful, and I liked how this story continued to build on the town, its residents, and its history. Morgan’s Grove is as charming as ever, as is the sense of community, and learning about Lexi’s grandmother and what happened to her and her friends during the war added more depth and layers to the town and characters.
Lexi is an interesting protagonist right from the start. She runs an antique shop passed down from her great-grandmother, and she puts a lot of thought into honoring her Gigi’s legacy while still making the store her own. She is a caring, inquisitive, and intelligent woman who definitely values family. So, of course, when she finds a necklace that belonged to her beloved Gigi, she determines to trace its history. With the help of a history expert named Graham, Lexi learns more than she ever expected.
Graham is fantastic, too! His background as a history professor definitely helps Lexi learn more about the necklace, and it is so great to see him and Lexi talk about their love of history, especially considering they’d both been judged for their interests in the past. I also love how thoughtful and respectful Graham is, not just with the past they are uncovering but with Lexi as well. Their romance is sweet and clean, and it grows gradually as Lexi and Graham spend time together. Graham’s steady, thoughtful nature complements Lexi well, and I enjoyed watching their connection deepen alongside the mystery. They make a good pair and team!
Like the other books in the series, the cast of secondary characters is interesting and fleshed out well. I love Lexi’s father, as well as many of the other residents of Morgan’s Grove. Lexi’s relationship with her mother feels a bit more complicated, which was an interesting contrast to the one she has with her dad. The mystery surrounding Gigi’s necklace is also intriguing and includes a romance of its own. It was like having a love story within a love story, complete with a hidden wartime romance.
Overall, this is a fun addition to the Morgan’s Grove series with a sweet love story and messages about love, family, and the balance between legacy and individuality. I always enjoy returning to this wonderful town and can’t wait to see who will be the focus of the next book. And though it’s the third in the series, the book can easily be read as a standalone if you haven’t read the first two books.

- small town charm
- hidden romance
- friends to lovers

Traci Borum is a writing teacher and native Texan. She’s also an avid reader of women’s fiction, most especially Elin Hilderbrand and Rosamunde Pilcher novels. Since the age of 12, she’s written poetry, short stories, magazine articles, and novels.
Traci also adores all things British. She even owns a British dog (Corgi) and is completely addicted to Masterpiece Theater–must be all those dreamy accents! Aside from having big dreams of getting a book published, it’s the little things that make her the happiest: deep talks with friends, a strong cup of hot chocolate, a hearty game of fetch with her Corgi, and puffy white Texas clouds always reminding her to “look up, slow down, enjoy your life.”

This sounds like a great series, with lots that I would enjoy. Thanks for sharing it, Julie.
