Synopsis:

EVERWOOD FALLS… a small supernatural community tucked up in the Colorado Rockies where witches, werewolves and vampires can live without fear of discovery, and those with curses they can’t control are sent to keep the existence of magic from being revealed to Mundanes.

When Norah Malone left the Underworld, she swore on her dark demon wings that she wouldn’t look back. Quiet Everwood Falls with its dress code of plaid flannel was a chance to start over and leave her past as a bounty hunter and enforcer for Hades behind. She’s a detective now in the Mundane world. Her life is pleasantly free of hellhounds and fire pits, thank you very much. But now Norah’s past has caught up to her, and the people closest to her may pay the price if she isn’t able to stop a demon curse before time runs out.

Blacksmith Ember Silverleaf is hardly afraid of curses. Between her fire-wielder magic and the fae-enchanted swords she creates in her forge, enemies (and potential dates) usually run from her. Norah Malone is the scowl to her sunshine, and the one person in three realms who impossibly does not like her cupcakes, which is too bad, since she’s entering them in the upcoming Solstice Spectacular annual baking competition, hosted by a famous demon chef.

As the baking competition is threatened, Norah and Ember will have to work together to find out who is behind the demon curse before someone is seriously hurt.

With a herd of enchanted elk, carnivorous spruce trees, and sentient pumpkins that stalk the local landscaping, Everwood Falls is a quirky mountain town where fangs and fur mean found family.

Review

Demon Marked is the fourth book in the Everwood Falls paranormal romance series. I love this town and all of its citizens. A place where supernaturals can live without fear of detection, especially those who have difficulties with their abilities, Everwood Falls is magical and charming and chaotic, and it was so easy to fall back into this world. This book focuses on Norah and Ember and their swoon-worthy romance.

Norah is tough and a little prickly, and she’s definitely the grump to Ember’s sunshine. Norah can be aloof and doesn’t let many people in, but there’s a lot going on under that tough shell. I liked that we get to see both sides of her, not just the intimidating detective but also the more vulnerable parts that she hides. And then there’s Ember, who is basically impossible not to like. lol She’s warm and kind, and she’s unfazed by Norah’s attitude, which made their interactions so fun to read.

The romance between Norah and Ember is so good. They have great chemistry, and I liked the opposites attract and grumpy x sunshine vibes. It was interesting to see them grow closer, especially considering how different Norah and Ember are. They actually complement each other really well.

Everwood Falls almost feels like a character itself. Between the magical creatures, the slightly dangerous greenery, and the overall cozy but chaotic feel, it’s charming and quirky in the best possible way. It also feels like a place where people care about and take care of each other, and it has major found family vibes, which is one of my favorite tropes. And the baking competition storyline added a fun layer to everything, mixing lighthearted moments in with the dangerous curse and mysteries.

Overall, this was an entertaining addition to the series, and though it’s the fourth book, I think it could be read as a standalone. That being said, the first three books are totally worth picking up too!
