Prey for Me was a fast-paced, kink-positive contemporary romance with major black cat – golden retriever vibes. Overall, I enjoyed it. However, for me, there was too much religious content, which I didn’t expect based on the blurb. I don’t like books with heavy religious tones or plots, so that part of the story didn’t work for me at all.

The romance between Margot and Caine was hinted at in the first book, and I was so excited to read their story. Caine could be considered completely swoon-worthy or totally diabolical in his obsession with Margot. They had a one-night stand years ago, and he’s had it bad for her since. You don’t really realize how deeply his feelings go until later in the story when a few things are revealed, and it was kind of romantic and a little creepy, which is one of those things that totally works for a sexy fictional MMC but would be cause for a restraining order in the real world. I had mixed feelings about some of it, but Caine was such a golden retriever in other ways, so I leaned into the romantic and not the red flags.

Margot has her own share of red flags, and she isn’t always the most likable character. She has a lot of trauma, and her vengeful ex-husband is back in the picture with plans of revenge. An ex-pastor whose secrets Margot revealed, he is abusive and vindictive and dangerous. I would suggest checking out the content warnings before reading because there are some themes and scenes that might not work for some readers.

I do love how sex and kink-positive the author’s stories are, and I’m glad Prey for Me had the same feel as Willing Prey in that regard. And the intimate scenes were very spicy! You might need a fan for this one because Margot and Caine have a ton of chemistry! Their banter is fantastic, too, and Caine’s charm is really highlighted in their quick and flirty conversations and his teasing. I liked seeing Margot slowly open up to and begin to trust him, though there were times when I wish their connection had a little more layers to it.

Overall, this was an ok story for me. I didn’t love how much it focused on the religious component, and there were a couple of things that happened toward the end that I questioned, but the romance, banter, and spice were great.
