Lost in His Spiderwebs is the second book in the Lozano Cartel series, and it is as suspenseful, dark, and steamy as the first one. Dark Hearts Aflame briefly introduced the heroine of this book, Drina Cabrera, and here we get her full story.
At the start of the story, Drina has already survived a kidnapping and five months in captivity at the hands of a brutal cartel, when she comes face-to-face with the last person she ever expected to see again. Rubén Lozano, her former love and now the head of his own cartel, becomes her rescuer and her new captor.
I found Drina’s character really interesting. She’s desperate to return home to her daughter, and that shapes almost every decision she makes. She is a survivor through and through, and I admired her strength and refusal to give up even when everything seemed impossible. Rubén was great, too. It’s clear that he still cares deeply for Drina, but he carries the pain of her leaving him years before, and he’s overly cautious. Now, with her life in his hands, his instinct to protect clashes with his anger and his fear of losing her again.
Both Drina and Rubén fight against their feelings, but the pull between them is undeniable and only grows stronger the longer they are together. They have amazing chemistry, and the high stakes and danger only heighten the tension and feelings between them. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this one, considering Drina is kidnapped and forced to work by one cartel and then bought by Rubén and forced to stay in his home instead of returning to her daughter. Rubén’s reasoning made sense, though, and I kind of felt like it wouldn’t be a hardship to be held captive by him. He definitely has the sexy, brooding, bad boy, gangster vibes down. lol
I don’t read a lot of mafia or cartel romances, but I always look forward to Amber Daulton’s books. The cartel world is dark, violent, and filled with danger, shifting loyalties, lies, and betrayals. It’s a gripping mix of suspense, passion, and danger, and it left me eager to see what happens next in the Lozano Cartel series.
Though this is the second in the series, I think you could read it without reading the first book. That being said, I loved seeing some familiar faces from the first book in this story. It’s always interesting to see how their lives intertwine and what’s happening to favorite characters from previous books. Special thanks to Amber Daulton for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

- second chance romance
- forced proximity
- captor/captive
