As the two begin writing to each other through the mysterious pages, they open doors not just to each other’s worlds, but to their most vulnerable hopes and fears.
When Della takes an impossible leap of faith and writes herself into Ansel’s story, she soon finds herself aboard his ship, surrounded by stars, danger, and a crew of outlaws who might just become her family. Together, Della and Ansel strike a she’ll help him clear his name in exchange for passage to the planet that holds the cure for her mother’s deadly illness.

First, I have to comment on the stunning cover, which is what initially drew me to this book. It’s so gorgeous, and I was intrigued by it and the title. There are a lot of other aspects I enjoyed too, including the found family vibes, the excellent banter, and the love story.
The author has a really immersive writing style, and the whole idea of two people communicating across time and space with books is so compelling. Della is a chambermaid and a dreamer, and Ansel is a fugitive somewhere out in space. It was so easy to become invested in their stories, and it was interesting to see the pair connect before they even met. Theirs is an epic adventure, much of it in his world, and I enjoyed the sci-fi elements as well as figuring out the mystery behind these seemingly magical books.
Della and Ansel have a star-crossed lovers kind of romance, and it was great. They have a ton of chemistry, and Ansel has major Han Solo vibes but swoonier. lol He falls so hard for Della, and I just adored it. And the letters! I think they were one of my favorite parts of the story. i love how they use this to communicate and get to know each other. Sometimes it’s easier to write things down than to say them, and I think both characters allowed themselves to be vulnerable in these moments.
I also loved the found family aspect between Della, Ansel, and Ansel’s crew. The banter between them all is fantastic, and there are so many great moments that had me chuckling. The plot was intriguing too, though there were a couple of elements that I wish were fleshed out a bit more. Overall though. I thought this was an entertaining read with a unique premise and a swoon-worthy love story.

- found family
- forced proximity
- Han Solo-esque MMC

Perhaps there was no one better suited for a girl with her head in the clouds than a boy who lived among the stars.
My mother told me there’s magic in the mundane. It’s those quiet, small joys that will have you falling head over heels for your own marvelous existence.
