When I wake up on the ice planet, I’m scared of This place is cold, silent, and the locals look more like blue devils than aliens. To make matters worse, one of the strangers decides I’m going to be his girlfriend and kidnaps me away from my sister. I’m completely and utterly alone. What’s a girl to do?

Well, this girl escapes.

Of course, that means I go from the frying pan into the fire, and my situation gets even more dangerous. Just when I have no hope left, a new hero shows up. Sure, he’s blue, horned, and has a tail. He’s also fierce, protective, makes me purr…and thinks I’m perfect.

But is what we have real or just a mating instinct?

My Review:

This is another fun and entertaining addition to the Ice Planet Barbarians series! I always enjoy returning to Non-Hoth and catching up with characters from previous books while meeting new romantic pairs.

Okay, first I have to comment on the planet. I feel like I’ve done it before, but it never gets old for me. The fact that they call it Non-Hoth just cracks me up and makes me love the story even more. I adore Star Wars (like so much I named my son Luke), so any reference to it in literature is my jam. The world-building is layered and immersive, and I could easily picture this frigid planet and its inhabitants, especially Rokan and Lila.

Rokan is a fantastic love interest for Lila. He is so patient and eager, and he sounds like a total hunk if you’re into big, muscly, blue alpha aliens. If I weren’t before (I was), I totally would be now (I am!). Lila has a hearing impairment that benefitted from a cochlear implant on Earth. Unfortunately, the implant is useless on Non-Hoth, and Lila loses her hearing. Because of this, Lila and Rokan struggle to communicate. But Rokan works hard to learn to sign, which made me love him even more. He is so eager to please Lila, and he shows her in so many ways, both big and little, that it’s hard not to fall for this thoughtful, protective, kind, and passionate alien.

The romance between Rokan and Lila is slower building than some of the other romances in this series, but it was perfect for these two characters. Their journey is spent getting to know each other and learning about each other, which only deepens their bond and romantic feelings. And their chemistry throughout is out of this world (see what I did there lol). I loved their spicy scenes as much as loved their more tender moments.

I’m glad there are a bunch more books in this series to look forward to because I don’t think I’ll ever tire of Ruby Dixon’s writing and the worlds, characters, and swoon-worthy romances she creates. Special thanks to NetGalley and Berkeley for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.
