Synopsis:
In a war where shadows and light collide, only the vicious can be victorious.
After Finnian Verran, the exiled Dark Fae prince, rescues Taryn Emory, estranged daughter of the One True Queen, his fate becomes entwined with hers as they embark on a mission to find the Spear of Assal—a powerful weapon of the gods—before the ruthless Day Court King can use it to destroy Faerie.
Thrown together on their quest, an undeniable attraction ignites, burning even hotter when Finn introduces Taryn to the seductive pleasures of shibari. But when the spear slips through their fingers and lands in the hands of their enemy, they must put past hurts behind them and help the one person they both resent—Taryn’s mother—for a chance to save Faerie.
Venturing across the veil, they face the ultimate test of their loyalty and love. With the fate of faekind hanging by a thread, they must rally their strength and allies. The odds might be stacked against them, but for his people and the female he loves, this Dark prince will fight like the most vicious of kings.
In the breathtaking finale of the Deviant Kings trilogy, witness the epic battles for power and love as the youngest Verran fights to restore his people’s honor and claim the heart of his queen.

The Vicious King is a fantastic finale to the Deviant Kings series. It follows Finnian, the youngest Verran brother, and Taryn, the daughter of the One True Queen, and their story is romantic, emotional, and exciting! Finnian and Taryn are both dynamically developed characters with compelling stories. I loved learning about them and seeing them grow so close.
Taryn has gone through a lot of trauma in her past and when Finnian first meets her. Kidnapped and held for a year, Taryn proves how strong she is from the first moment we meet her. Finnian has his own struggles as the second spare of the royal family. He lives his life in the shadows, and I was so eager to learn more about him since his character has been so elusive and mysterious throughout the first two books in the series. He’s a hulking, ferocious cinnamon roll – protective, fierce, and incredibly kind. He’s also an amazing communicator, and I adored how gentle and accepting and patient he was.
The romance between Taryn and Finnian is super steamy and filled with an unbelievable amount of chemistry! They both fall pretty fast, which made sense considering their connection. Plus, how could you resist the gentle giant that is Finnian? lol They have some super spicy, kinky scenes as Finnian introduces Taryn to the world of Shibari, as well as some lovely and sweet romantic scenes. But what I love the most about their relationship is how well they communicate. They are a well-matched pair and equal partners in all that they do.
The secondary characters are great, too, and I’m hoping there will be another book or a spin-off series with Dimitri, Taryn’s brother, because his dark, brooding, mysterious vibes already have me intrigued! I also like that we get more of the main characters in the first two books. Finnian’s brothers and their partners are all fantastic, and I always love it when series bring in the main characters from the previous books. And when all of the Verran brothers are together…. I need a fan to cool off! lol
The story has excellent and immersive world-building and tons of action and intrigue, much like the first two books. Between a daring rescue in enemy territory to a mysterious quest around Las Vegas to an epic battle, there’s never a dull moment. The twists and turns keep you guessing, and the epilogue is just perfect. I would definitely recommend this series to readers who like erotic paranormal romance!

It’s wonderful when a series ends on a high note. Great review, Julie.
Thanks so much, Carla!
