My Thoughts on The Siren’s Cursed Kiss:
The Siren’s Cursed Kiss is the third book in the Everwood Falls series (Light My Pyre & Fallen), and it’s a swoon-worthy paranormal romance with THE BEST magical community and found family. The story follows Sage Summers, who has made a home for herself in Everwood Falls after being deemed too dangerous for the mundane world. A witch with incredible but uncontrollable power, she’s learned to live with the curse, but when her ex-fiancé shows up in town, Sage is drawn into a dangerous mystery that affects witches and sirens alike. Luckily, she has the help of her friends and her best friend (and hottie merman), Gideon.
Sage is fantastic! Strong, upbeat, and incredibly powerful, she’s also deeply wounded by the family who doesn’t fully accept her and the ex who left her behind. She’s built walls around her heart, and I completely understood why. Then there’s Gideon, the ultimate cinnamon roll. He faces his own share of struggles, especially with his identity and his past with the merfolk, which adds a lot of depth to his character. Seeing how deeply devoted he is to Sage and watching him support her while also facing his own fears made me love him even more. It was so interesting to learn more about each of their pasts, how they ended up in Everwood Falls, and the struggles that shaped them.
A powerful green witch and a cinnamon roll merman make such a great pair, and I loved Sage and Gideon’s friends-to-lovers romance. They have such a sweet love story, and seeing their friendship turn into something more was wonderful. Of course, Sage’s past and her fears prevent her from acting on her feelings, and the angst is tangible. Luckily for her, Gideon is patient, devoted, and so obviously in love with Sage. He never pushes her, and I just loved that. He’s an amazing and kind-hearted man, and he always respects her boundaries. Best friends, they know each other really well, and they have a super strong bond that is challenged a lot over the course of the story, but their feelings for each other are unwavering. Ahhh, they’re both fantastic, layered characters, and their budding romance had my heart from the start.
Another part of the book (and the whole series) that I love is the found family dynamic. Sage, like most of the town’s residents, can’t leave Everwood Falls, and her relationship with her actual family is complicated, to say the least. They love her, but when they talk, they are so inconsiderate of her feelings. So, it’s lovely to see that Sage has this wonderful group of friends who love, care for, and support her. And can I live in Everwood Falls, please? The idea of never being able to leave wouldn’t be ideal, but the charm, the sense of community, the magic, and all of the people who live there sound fabulous. Plus, I need to see the enchanted pumpkins! lol
The mystery and themes are also great. I was eager to see how Sage and Gideon would navigate the growing danger as attacks against witches escalated and the sirens slowly lost their powers. It was suspenseful, and the story took a few dangerous turns I didn’t see coming.
The Siren’s Cursed Kiss had everything I love—deep friendships, a swoon-worthy romance, and a wonderfully supportive found family. I also thought the themes of belonging, the importance of community, and the power of all different kinds of love were woven well throughout the book. At its heart, this story is about love, belonging, and finding family in unexpected places. I’m already excited for the next book in this fun and charming series and am so thankful to Kat Kinney for sending me a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.
