Review

He’d say yes to whatever this woman wanted for the rest of his life if she allowed him the privilege.

Honey and Heat is a sexy and emotionally charged contemporary romance with great characters and a super swoon-worthy love story! I adored Rohit and Cynthia and the dynamic push and pull between them. They have soooo much chemistry, and Rohit in particular stole my heart with his sexy and romantic feelings.

Rohit and Cynthia are both experiencing personal and professional struggles, which felt realistic and relatable. Rohit has a strong sense of duty and family loyalty, and he works so hard to provide for his family, and he’s super motivated. Cynthia is, too. With her workaholic tendencies, she’s trying desperately to prove herself to her father, who is also her boss. Working in a male-dominated and sexist workplace doesn’t help matters. Like Rohit, Cynthia has conflict with her family, and she struggles with feeling like a disappointment. There are definitely a lot of messages here about knowing your worth, communication, and navigating workplace pressures.

Rohit is an absolute golden retriever and a complete simp for Cynthia. I’ve read a few books like this lately, and I have to say – it’s a new favorite trope. Phew, some of the things he says to and thinks about Cynthia were so romantic and swoon-worthy, and I was totally taken in by Rohit’s charm and sincerity. He falls first and so hard for Cynthia, but she takes a bit longer to embrace her ever-growing feelings. I adored their rivals-to-lovers workplace romance!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Berkeley for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

Swoon-Worthy Quotes from Honey and Heat:

Her chest grew pleasantly tight as the chambers of her heart squeezed. The space between heartbeats, Cynthia was learning, was for pining, aching, and yearning. Falling.

Rohit’s breath stuttered when his hands came into contact with Cynthia’s soft skin. He touched her carefully, as if she were uncovered treasure that no human was meant to find. Invaluable and incomparable. His hands shook ever so slightly as if they, too, were in awe of her.

He loved her—every part of her. His entire life, he’d been taught to believe a marriage lasted seven lifetimes, and before today he’d tucked that piece of information away as an old wives’ tale, next to other silly beliefs like the unluckiness of black cats or the power of a lucky penny. But in this moment, Rohit knew with stunning clarity that seven lifetimes with this woman wouldn’t be enough. He was drawn to her, as if his soul were a magnet and in her was the opposite pole. She’d strengthened their magnetic field, charged it with an unknowable, irresistible force with one simple word: we.
