My Review:

Her Legendary Highlander is a wonderful addition to the Lovers and Legends series. When Andreona captures Malcolm and his friends, she is certain she will finally get in her tyrannical father’s good graces. Unfortunately, things don’t go according to plan, and, amid a terrible betrayal and realization that her father wants her dead, Andreona finds herself traveling with Malcolm as he tries to return a precious heirloom. The more time they spend together, the more their feelings for each other grow. Can this pair take a chance on love and have a future together?

This is such a fantastic historical romance series, and I loved Her Legendary Highlander. The enemies-to-lovers romance between Malcolm and Andreona is, of course, my favorite part of the story. The pair has an instant connection, even though Andreona captures him and intends to offer him to her father. Malcolm, who could easily escape her clutches, seizes the opportunity to get closer to the weapon he is searching for, but he also feels drawn to Andreona. I love their building relationship and how they slowly learn to trust each other. Both have painful pasts, and I think they are a great support to each other. They understand each other well and are patient with each other. Plus, their chemistry is off-the-charts!

Andreona is such a great protagonist. She is strong and determined, and her ferocity and courageousness are admirable. This is a woman who can take care of herself, and she has such a zest for life, but even her vivaciousness is tested when told life-shattering news. All she’s ever wanted is to gain her father’s approval, and when she realizes the fruitlessness of this goal, she flounders. She has nowhere to go and no one to turn to. With no one to trust and an uncertain future, her entire life is in upheaval, especially after facing deep betrayals. However, she sees something in the honorable Malcolm, who has been there for her even when he didn’t have to.

I love Malcolm! Like Andreona, he is a layered and interesting character, and I found his story, and his connection to the characters in previous novels in the series compelling. He’s suffered so much pain, and the violent loss he experienced in his childhood has defined him. Malcolm doesn’t let anyone get close until he meets Andreona, whose strength, bravery, and intelligence proves irresistible. He and Andreona make such a wonderful pair, and I love how they grow, heal, and find happiness. I also really like how understanding and sympathetic he is with Andreona. He is kind and honest, and super swoon-worthy!

The overarching mystery of the Waterstone family and their search for a missing treasure propels the plot in many ways and makes for an intriguing read. I’m so intrigued by the mystery of these priceless artifacts and the consequences of owning them. With these possessions comes unfathomable power, which adds to the suspense. I also like how this mystery ties all of the major characters in the series together. It’s interesting to see how they are connected and how their roles in the mystery affect so many other people.

I thought this was a fabulous historical romance with well-layered protagonists, poignant and touching moments, and the return of many of my favorite characters from other books in the series. There is one particular scene where many of the characters are gathered together, which I absolutely adored! I always love finding out how couples from previous books in a series are faring, and this had some great updates. Thanks so much to Rachel’s Random Resources, the author, and Harlequin Historical for gifting me a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

My Rating:

Favorite Parts:

  • The romance.
  • The overarching mystery.

Favorite Lines:

Boxes with nothing in them held possibilities.

Life is about survival, which doesn’t wait for emotions.

About the Author:

Nicole first discovered romance novels hidden in her grandmother’s closet. Convinced hidden books must be better, Nicole greedily read them. It was only natural she should start writing them (but now not so secretly). If she isn’t working on the next book in her historical series, she can’t be found. No, seriously. Because she’s always working on the next story!
