My Review:

I’m so thrilled to be on the blog tour for The Lost Laird from Her Past. This is a fantastic second-chance historical romance with dynamic protagonists, a bit of mystery, and a swoon-worthy love story.

Brenna and Garrick are both well-rounded and interesting characters, and I loved their second-chance romance. Though they have a lot to work through and need answers to many burning questions, it’s clear from the start that there is unfinished business between the two. Their love story is filled with angst and chemistry and unvoiced feelings, and I so rooted for this bruised couple to find happiness again.

In addition to the unresolved issues between the pair, Brenna and Garrick have personal issues to work through as well. Both struggle with feeling unworthy and useless, and Garrick is also burdened by grief and guilt because of his perceived inaction. I like that they slowly begin to confide in and depend on each other as they journey together. Their deep connection and their feelings for each other prove stronger than most of the obstacles thrown their way.

Another aspect of the story that I love is the setting. The author captures the beauty and fierceness of the land well and deftly uses imagery and personification to make the Highlands a character in itself. I love how the author’s writing pulls you into the story and creates such rich and vivid images right from the start. The story also has a bit of intrigue, as someone is clearly targeting Brenna, and Garrick and Brenna spend much of the story trying to flee danger and figure out who is targeting them. I enjoyed the mystery and suspense, and it definitely added to the tension that was already simmering between Brenna and Garrick.

This is another romantic and exciting read by Jeanine Englert and one I would definitely recommend to historical romance fans. And though it’s the second book in the Falling for a Stewart series, it can easily be read as a standalone. Special thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and the author for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.
